It's a magical when a carry bag morphs with a cart bag. Callaway have achieved just that...
This bag is sturdy enough to slot onto a cart or trolley, but can be carried thanks to the Eva Moulded Straps which provide comfort no matter how many clubs are in your bag. We loved the straps in testing and were impressed with how naturally this bag attaches to your trolley, although it's worth noting that the bag is quite narrow at the bottom, meaning straps are essential for the optimal trolley experience. A rubber pad sits atop your trolley which helps keep your clubs in place.
There is ample storage space too, with a five way compartment with a wide upper pocket. We found the umbrella storage to be a little fliddly and frustrating, but we loved the other pockets that will keep your accessories secure and dry.
The Callaway Fairway+ HD is a great contender for our best waterproof golf bags guide, the HD is created from 10K waterproof fabric and fully seam-sealed. You can take confidence that your precious belongings are even more protected thanks to a fuzzy lined waterproof valuables pocket. There's no doubt this is a top tier golf bag... The quality, features and design is second to none.

On first glance you might think this bag is style over substance...think again. The Callaway Fairway C HD is another strong addition to Callaway's already impressive range of stand bags. The bold color scheme is definitely a conversation starter and it's not for everyone. We were fans of the color palette.
This bag isn't just about flashy looks - it backs up style with substance. the Fairway C HD is another strong addition to Callaway's army of stand bags - with this one standing out a little more than the other with the eye-catching colorway options.
Nine pockets help store everything you could want on the course, whilst a four way divider uses Callaway's 'shaft-shield' rubber overmold to protect your clubs. We did find the zips a little stiff in testing, though.
The base is intelligently designed to offer support on all surfaces. Crucially, the straps are comfortable so you can play 9, 18 or even 36 holes without any irritability.

It isn't fully waterproof, but the Fairway 14 remains an excellent bag to carry on your back. If you're a player who likes to carry, it should be an option for you amongst some of the best golf stand bags on the market.
We really loved the 14-way Lowrider top on this bag, which means it doubles as one of the best golf cart bags in the game, thanks to the rubber overmold that comes over the top of the bag that helps it maintain its integrity when strapped to a cart or electric trolley. The highlight here was the carrying experience, with the clip-on straps delivering a self-levelling property which was one thing less to worry about when trying to shoot a good score. The shoulder pads were ribbed and felt cushioned and mean you won't get too sweaty on warmer days.
Seven pockets provide a tonne of storage with this bag, too. The generous main pocket is great and whilst the golf ball pocket could be bigger, we loved the magnetic concealed rangefinder pocket and the snug-fitting cooler pocket which helped keep our water nice and chilled. We also noted the pass-through cart strap for use on a buggy helpful in testing.

Again, the Chev Dry is designed for those old-fashioned player who like to carry their golf bags. This option is incredibly easy to use, with it's lightweight coupled with a well-designed, streamlined golf bag with no feeling of bulkiness. It is one of the best lightweight golf bags on the market. The side pockets are big enough to store waterproofs or an extra layer, but you will need to choose wisely what to carry with you before you play - there’s not endless amounts of storage. We actually liked this because it stopped us bringing too many unnecessary items.
Straps are comfortable and waterproof which is so important once the poor weather rolls in, and the excellent design means the bag never feels like a chore to carry. Some players will want more storage, which is understandable, including a pocket for specific tees and ball markers. These were the only draw backs from an otherwise fantastic golf bag option.

The name is a bit of a giveaway, but the Hyperlite Zero weights next to nothing at just under 3lbs. A lot of the weight saving comes from the carbon fibre legs which looks like a fancy pair of graphite shafts - they are strong, stable and are well-angled to cope with this bag being placed on an uneven lie or slope.
The strap system on the hyperlite is very clever as it self-balances itself, while the circular swivel device placed between the double straps adjusts to keep the bag from bouncing around on your back as you walk to prevent tilting or even your clubs sliding out of the bag. This was both highly practical and didn't mean we had to waste time adjusting the strap once you found your optimal position.

Generally speaking, the best cart bags in golf are quite heavy. However, at just 1.8kg (just under 4lbs) the Callaway Chev Dry 14 waterproof cart bag is easily one of the most lightweight golf bags we have ever tested. Despite the lightweight design, there is still plenty of space in this bag thanks to seven pockets.
Our first day of testing with the Chev Dry 14 was on a damp day on the links, which was perfect considering what bag we were testing. The waterproof materials got a real challenge from the weather and stood up as advertised - nothing in our bag got famp and the seam-sealed pockets worked a treat. The rain cover provided also proved handy.
We did note that some of the materials don't feel as premium compared to other bags we have tested. The lightweight nature of the design and the waterproofing means they are a little scratchy in places, whilst the materials covering the 14-way divider don't feel as premium as other Callaway options.

Durability is the name of the game with Callaway's premium waterproof cart bag. The material on the Hyper Dry is 50% more waterproof than previous models and the sealed seems and welded zipper on the multiple pockets help protect your equipment in even the harshest conditions.
What’s impressive with this bag though is how light it is. It looks like a sturdy and weighty piece of kit, but without clubs or equipment in, it weighs just 1.9kg – lighter than many carry bags. Additionally we found this lightness didn't sacrifice any rigidity or durability either.
The 14-way club divider is thorough and has an oversized putter well that nciely separates your flat stick from your other clubs. Eight spacious pockets provides fantastic storage options and five available colorways means you can add a bit of flair with this cart bag. The Hyper Dry bag deliver in all areas - waterproofing, protection, weight and storage, thus justifying the premium pricetag.

Less is more...and that's certainly true for the best pencil bags. Pencil bags provide you with the flexibility to travel freely around the freely and return to a simple, minimal approach where you're not burdened by heavy equipment.
The Callaway Par 3 HD pencil bag takes features from the the best stand bagsand uses them in a slimmer, ultra lightweight package. We tested the bag on 18 holes and found it to be one of the lightest bags we've ever used. Obviously, it's not designed carry a full set of clubs like some of the best lightweight golf bags. Still, there's enough room to squeeze all 14 clubs in the bag if you wanted to, but that's not the point.
With almost any pencil bag, sotrage isn't in abundance with this option, but we liked it because it makes you realize what you do and don't need out on the course. When we tested the Par 3 HD we took a dozen golf balls, a water bottle, a wallet, some tees and a sweater - what more could you need? A handy waterproof pocket for your phone and car keys is a great feature, too. The bag is made from 10k waterproof fabric and is fully seam-sealed - a rarity for pencil bags. If the weather does take a turn for the worse, this pencil bag can withstand those surprise heavy downpours and would be perfect for a holiday trip or players who are happy to ditch a few clubs and enjoy a simple walk around the links.

There’s something very satisfying about a pencil bag – Throw a few clubs together, sling in a few balls and tees and head out onto the course. It’s a great feeling to get back to golfing basics.
Importantly with a bag of this size, Callaway have made this pencil option extremely light - it weight just over 1KG and is one of the lightest Callaway bags available. The 3-way top keeps your clubs seperate and safe with the full length dividers and there's reasonable storage space with three pockets, one of which is a full length poket for thing like waterproofs or an extra jumper.
The double strap is comfortable and the water-resistant underbelly will help keep your equipment dry when the ground isn't. The option for a mini stand is also available for a little added protection for the bag. A quick 9-holes on a summers evening has never been easier with this on your back.
How we test golf bags
Our testing process for all golf gear, let alone golf bags, is rigorous and comprehensive. As far as our methodology goes, if we say we have reviewed a product, that means we have used it out on the golf course, and put it through its paces in different conditions.
We also endeavor to use all the features on the golf bag, for example if the valuables pocket claims to be waterproof, we pour water on it to find out.
We pride ourselves in our reviews for two main reasons - our experience with testing and our passion for golf products. We want to help you, the reader, find the best option for their golf game.
Our reviews are made for golfers, by golfers. There's no such thing as a company 'buying a good review' - if we tell you a product is good, it's because we've compared it to hundreds we've tested before it and we've been suitably impressed!
How to choose a new golf bag
There are several key factors to consider when thinking about buying a golf bag and we have gone into those below...
Bag Type - Put simply what kind of bag do you want? Do you want a stand bag? Or a cart model? Both of these types of bag have their positives and negatives and you should think about what you think is important to your golf.
Stand bags may not suit the older golfer but can offer excellent waterproofing, strength and durability. They do, however, require more effort to use and don't offer as much storage as the typical cart bag.
However, that being said there are several stand bags above that can also be used on golf carts as well so maybe that is a way of killing two birds with one stone.
Cart bags are for those who want to use golf carts on the golf course. If this is you, then you'll likely want a stable model that is not only easy to lift and move around, but also one that sits firmly on your cart. One big advantage we have found is that cart bags also tend to offer ample storage for accessories, apparel, valuables and all the other golf paraphernalia you might need during the round.
Cart bags are, you guessed it, designed for the back of a golf cart or trolley. This will provide a more stable, easy to use experience - although we'd recommend checking out our guide for the best electric golf trolleys and the best golf push trolleys. If you're unsure of what trolley to buy... we've got you for that, too - read our guide on how to choose a golf trolley
The main negative is they are just bulkier and have to be taken off the cart before and after the round, whereas stand bags offer a bit more freedom.
Storage - Storage is important in golf these days because a good golf bag has to offer pockets for lots of different things as we mentioned above. Cart bags tend to have larger pockets because they are just that, larger. They also require less effort to use too which means players are able to carry more stuff with them if needed.
Stand bags on the other hand usually have enough to house the essentials.
However there are also golf bags out there that keep the game simple with only a few pockets so have a think about how much gear you want to take onto the golf course, and pick a bag accordingly.
Waterproofing - If you live on the west coast of scotland, this category is likely more important for you than those who live in the warmth of Texas or Arizona. Unfortunately, not every round of golf is played under blazing sun and blue skies, so we must be prepared for when the rain arrives. Some golf bags are better than others in this category, so it's worth looking into how waterproof a golf bag can be, and importantly - how waterproof you need your golf bag to be.
Weight - Weight is important, especially if you tend to carry your bag on your back. Even if you don't, you don't want your cart bag to weigh a tonne. Look into the weight of your golf bag before purchase and before you do so, have an idea of how much you want your bag to weigh for ultimate comfort.
Looks - Do you care about looks? Do you want your bag to stand out from the crowd? Do you want it to blend in? Do you even care? We'd argue you should care, although each to their own...
Some bags are available in different colorways, some aren't. Some are available in bright, flashy colours, some aren't. Look into this before making your decision.
Budget - Our final factor to consider is of course price. There are golf bags at every single price point so if you want to go for a premium cart model you can, or if you want a cheap stand bag you can also do that too.
