Jason Day And Hideki Matsuyama Make Significant Equipment Changes Ahead Of Wyndham Championship
Both Major winners were seen with new clubs in their set-ups ahead of the final regulation event of the 2026 PGA Tour season
Although the PGA Tour season is almost at an end, that hasn't stopped Jason Day from overhauling nearly all of his equipment set-up.
An equipment-free agent, the Australian is able to use any club he likes and, ahead of the Wyndham Championship, that's exactly what he has done.
In a post on GolfWRX's Instagram, the main story comes in the form of new irons, where the Major winner has replaced his Avoda models with Callaway Apex MB, a traditional muscle back set that is actually hitting retailers soon.
Ranging from 6-iron to pitching wedge (or a 10-iron, as Callaway calls it), it appears the KBS TGI Tour Graphite Iron Shaft 110s have remained in the set-up.
Another new club is the 5-iron, where Day has the cavity-back Callaway X Forged. Once again, this has the same KBS shaft as the Apex MB Raw.
Currently, it's unclear as to whether the set will remain for the Wyndham Championship, but it's a significant change after Day was spotted with Avoda Prototype models in the bag for the first time back in October 2025.
He used them throughout the remainder of that year, as well as a few other prototype models in 2026, with the curved-face present that we see in other Avoda iron sets.
Away from the irons, Day's equipment changes haven't stopped there, as he looks to make the FedEx Cup Playoffs with a strong week at Sedgefield Country Club.
Withdrawing from a handful of events recently due to a back injury, the 38-year-old is 75th in the FedEx Cup standings and, with the top 70 advancing to the FedEx St. Jude Championship, Day needs a strong performance to make it inside the magic number.
His Ping G430 LST driver has remained, but the Callaway Quantum Ti 3-wood and Callaway Quantum Triple Diamond 5-wood have replaced his TaylorMade Stealth 2 fairway woods. The 7-wood of the Stealth 2 appears to have remained, though.
If that's not enough, Day is also trialing Callaway Opus SP wedges in a 50°, 56° and 60° configuration, while even the putter isn't safe to a significant change.
Previously, the 13-time PGA Tour winner was using a TaylorMade Ghost Spider Itsy Bitsy Black, which helped him to the majority of his victories through 2014-2018.
Now, though, Day has been spotted with a custom blacked-out Odyssey White Hot OG #5, a more compact mallet design than that of the Spider.

One other notable name who is also looking for success this week is Hideki Matsuyama, who appears to have also changed his set-up.
Possessing one of the most unique golf bags on the PGA Tour circuit, the Major winner appears to have changed his wedge set-up, swapping the Cleveland RTX 4 Forged Prototype for the Cleveland RTZ 2 Tour Racks.
The RTZ 2 came into the public eye earlier this week and, if Matsuyama were to move into them, it would be a significant one, given that he had been using the RTX 4 model since 2019.
Along with the wedges, he changed into the Srixon ZXi RKT LS+ driver at the Travelers Championship in June, as the brand rolled out their new metal wood range.
Going into the Wyndham Championship, the Japanese star is 24th in the FedEx Cup standings, meaning he will comfortably make it through to the Playoffs.
