+ Versatile for on/off course
+ Adaptable and comfortable
- Drawcords can be a little distracting
Earlier this year we enjoyed testing the Zukor Jacket from Johnnie-O but in my opinion the bar has been raised further by the Marshall Jacket. A full-zip hooded model, as the name suggests it is as light as a feather, and yet it performed well in breezy conditions making it a good windbreaker as well. I must admit I am not a fan of the drawcords which can move around and be a little distracting, but this is a minor point because I think the jacket looks great on and off the course, provides a good amount of stretch thanks to the fabric construction, and works well with other layers. The 2-way zipper was a nice touch as well, giving comfort when sitting down in particular. There are three colors to choose from with the Seal model pictured here being the pick of the bunch in my opinion.

+ Premium look and feel
+ Lightweight but solid weather protection
- Only two color choices
Based on the best-selling Everyday Vest, B.Draddy’s Everyday Jacket is another worthy inclusion in this guide. First up I think it looks great, it has a premium aesthetic that works on and off the course, and despite it only being available in two colors, it remains stylish and classy.
The shell is made from a polyester fabric which features water and wind resistance as part of its design, and I must say the performance here was solid. The arms and sides have a spandex fabric present which really stretches beautifully, adds to the overall lightweight feel of the jacket and makes it breathable too. The two side pockets and chest pocket add some practicality to an overall excellent jacket here.

+ Highly breathable
+ Playable fit
- Looks more like it was designed for off the course
If you play golf all year round you’re going to need a playable jacket that is substantial enough to keep all but the worst of weather at bay and the Parachute windbreaker does a very good job of this. The mesh lining ensures good airflow, so you remain comfortable as the temperature changes. The stretch shell combats the wind very well and provides protection from light rain too. We enjoyed the extra details like the inner zip pocket and the double zip, which provides some extra room at the bottom for those who need it. The elasticated cuffs and drawstring at the waist provide a tailored fit that removes excess material that can be distracting during the swing. It’s not cheap but this is a stylish, versatile jacket that will serve you well in a variety of weather conditions.

+ Iconic streetwear aesthetic
+ Exceptional airflow design
- Relaxed silhouette may feel oversized for some
The Malbon Pine Windshirt is a superbly premium garment, with its technical nylon-spandex blend providing a lightweight, stretchy feel that adapts perfectly to your follow-through. Part of the ‘Icons’ lineup, this piece features a signature open back vent and an adjustable drawcord waistband, ensuring you stay cool and comfortable during breezy afternoon rounds.
The minimalist black colorway is elevated by the embroidered ‘Buckets’ logo and bold script branding, striking a balance between heritage golf and modern street style. With functional front pockets and a versatile half-zip funnel neck, it’s a stylish transition piece that works as well at the 19th hole as it does on the fairway. Ideal for the golfer seeking a relaxed, contemporary edge without sacrificing essential on-course breathability.
Sizes: S-XXL

+ Excellent lightweight layering piece
+ Velcro cuffs keep sleeves nicely out of the way
- Only water resistant
The Dunes Jacket from Peter Millar is an outstanding outerwear option for those cooler, unpredictable days on the golf course, where you might get caught in a shower or two. Constructed from a highly technical double-weave performance fabric featuring a blend of polyester and spandex, this jacket manages to be incredibly soft and lightweight, protecting you from the elements, but can be easily stowed in your bag when not in use.
What really stands out is the complete freedom of movement it provides, thanks to the four-way stretch construction, which ensures your golf swing remains fluid and unrestricted. The smart inclusion of adjustable velcro cuffs helps lock out the rain, making sure the sleeves never slide down to interfere with your grip or backswing, and rain doesn’t run up your arms. Featuring a practical two-way zipper and a refined, classic silhouette, it’s extremely versatile.

+ Total protection
+ Quiet fabric limits distractions
- Top end of price spectrum
I have tested a wide range of rain jackets over my time at Golf Monthly and one of the absolute best is the Sun Day Red 3L Rain Jacket, a model I recently got my hands on. Made from three layers of Polartec Powershield fabric, this jacket offers complete and total protection from adverse weather conditions, and yet is still lightweight and breathable too. Having tested in some tough conditions on and off the course, and even poured water on it to see what would happen, the jacket kept me dry and blocked wind out very well indeed. I also noted just how quiet this jacket was, which was a real design element Tiger Woods focused on. It barely makes a sound during the swing and it stretches seamlessly for unrestricted movement too. Finally I think it looks great, works comfortably with layers underneath, and it folds down well.

Tops

+ The ideal quarter zip
+ Loads of colors to choose from
- Perhaps the price
Having recently tested the Sully Pullover, I can understand why it is a best-seller on the Johnnie-O website. In short, it is the ideal quarter zip in my opinion. The cotton blend fabric feels lovely and comfortable, the top looks great and it comes in an amazing 16 different colors. The pullover fits well and is designed not only to be comfortable, but smart as well, ensuring there is no excess material which can be annoying and impede the swing.
Importantly it is a versatile garment thanks to the refined finish, meaning it can be used on and off the course, for example I have worn it to work a number of times. I also really liked how the fabric felt lightweight, and yet thick enough for when it gets a touch chilly. Perhaps the only stumbling block for some could be the price, but given its performance, I think the Sully is worth it.

+ Athletic, sporty feel
+ Stretchy and breathable
- White colorway is slightly see-through, depending on the color of your polo
The Easton is Mizzen + Main’s latest ‘sporty’ quarter zip and after testing their Highland Quarter Zip last year, I was hoping to be just as impressed this time around. This is a piece designed for movement, be that on the golf course, travel or simply if you’re out and about. Built with ‘TurboDry’ fabric, it feels lightweight and stretchy, hammering in that ‘sporty’ feel the moment you slip it on.
It’s tight around the waist and sleeve without feeling restrictive and is a great option to throw into your bag as an extra layer for those evening rounds in which the temperature might dip on the back nine. The only critique I would make is that the white colorway I was sent is ever so slightly see through, depending on the color of polo I wore underneath.

+ Ultra-lightweight, breathable
+ Modern fit, sharp aesthetic
- Other layers needed for colder rounds
The Bell Pullover offers an ultra-lightweight feel and exceptional breathability thanks to its innovative AIRATION perforated fabric. This isn't a pullover designed to provide significant warmth; rather, it serves as a high-performance layer that excels in moisture management and all-day comfort.
The signature tailored fit from Holderness & Bourne ensures a sharp, modern look and wouldn’t look out of place at the gym or playing other sports. Its sophisticated styling is complemented by practical performance features such as UPF 50+ sun protection, neat straight cuffs, and a modern drop-tail silhouette for enhanced coverage.

+ Versatile "seasonless" design
+ Premium heavyweight feel
- Relaxed fit may feel baggy for traditionalists
One of the design highlights of the Malbon Range Cooper Sweatshirt is the superior quality of its heavyweight premium cotton. Part of the ‘Icons’ collection, this piece is designed for ‘laid-back luxury,’ offering a soft, substantial feel that transitions seamlessly from a morning at the driving range to a relaxed afternoon in the city. The classic crew neck silhouette is enhanced by durable ribbed details at the collar, waistband, and cuffs, ensuring the shape holds up through repeated wear.
Subtle branding - including the iconic embroidered ‘Buckets’ logo on the chest and elegant script on the cuff - adds a touch of streetwear-inspired sophistication. While it prioritizes comfort over technical performance, its breathability makes it a reliable mid-layer for milder days. It is a standout choice for the modern golfer seeking a contemporary, effortless aesthetic without sacrificing everyday functionality.
Sizes: S-XXL
Colors: 4
+ Classic style and modern performance
+ Exceptional four-way stretch
- Susceptible to fraying from bag straps
The Performance Crewneck from Peter Millar perfectly balances a traditional, sweater-like aesthetic with the technical benefits required for golf in all conditions. Constructed from a moisture-wicking blend of polyester and spandex, it features a textured piqué knit that looks sophisticated but delivers exceptional four-way stretch, so you never feel restricted at any point in your swing. The classic fit, that’s neither too tight nor baggy, makes it an incredibly comfortable layering piece for crisp mornings with a gilet over the top.
The banded cuffs and hem help maintain a sharp silhouette, ensuring it looks just as good off the course. However, there is a slight downside regarding long-term durability if you are a frequent walker, whereby the fabric has frayed a little down the side where our golf bag straps have rubbed against the sweater during carried rounds.

+ Best quality quarter-zip I’ve ever worn
+ Beautifully soft and versatile to be worn any wear
- Could do with a few more color options
After trying The Marsay on for the first time, I then continued to wear it for the next three days - hopefully that gives you an indication of how soft and comfortable it is. The word that comes to mind when I think of this pullover is ‘classy’ - the super soft Zegna Baruffa Wool is complimented by a textured knit to give a top-quality look, one that is subtle but looks uber-premium.
Like the best options in this guide, The Marsay can be worn to any event, be that a tee time, a fancy dinner or even a smart casual event like a baptism or engagement party. It comes with a premium price tag, but backs that price tag up with a feel that I’ve never experienced from a pullover before - I highly recommend it if you're looking for a top-end sweater for the colder months!
Vests/Gilets
Sizes: S-XXXL
Colors: 4
+ Looks super premium
+ Clever hidden zip-out hood
- The shoulders make it look a touch ‘boxy’
The Crosswind from Johnnie-O is a superb outerwear option for those crisp mornings and breezy afternoons on the links. Crafted from a blend of polyester and spandex, this vest is remarkably lightweight and breathable while providing more than enough warmth for when you’re on the course or out in town in cooler conditions. The water- and wind-resistant quilted fabric performs well in unpredictable weather, ensuring you stay both warm and dry if the weather turns while you’re on the course.
There are a few thoughtful design elements, such as the welt side pockets with magnetic closures and a highly practical zip-out removable hood that offers even further versatility. The tailored silhouette looks incredibly sharp, allowing it to seamlessly double as a smart layering piece over a polo or button-down.
Sizes: S-XXL

+ Light thermal insulation
+ Clean and versatile design
- Requires specific care
The King Vest offers a lightweight design with effective thermal insulation, specifically designed to keep your core warm and you looking sharp on chilly days. The smooth nylon-elastane blend exterior is not just about a modern aesthetic; it provides excellent four-way stretch, ensuring your movements are never restricted even if you layer up underneath.
The tailored fit is engineered to present a sleek silhouette without any unnecessary bulk, and its sophisticated, clean styling allows it to transition seamlessly from the golf course to a variety of smart-casual environments. The small logo detailing on the rear of the neck is a classy touch, while the functionality of the vest is enhanced by hidden side utility zipper pockets and a practical tonal two-way zipper. If you’re after a vest that offers complete versatility and style, then the King Vest is an option worth considering.
Sizes: S-XXL

+ Fantastic dual-zip functionality prevents bunching
+ Incredibly versatile styling for on and off the course
- Pockets are ever so slightly high
The Fuse Hybrid Gilet from Peter Millar is an outstanding outerwear option that delivers essential warmth for those cooler days on the course without ever sacrificing athletic mobility. This vest pairs a lightly insulated front with stretch-performance side panels for complete unrestricted motion throughout the swing, all while ensuring your body heat is comfortably retained.
What really elevates this piece are the thoughtful, premium finishing touches, such as the highly practical dual zip, which allows you to slightly open the bottom to prevent any annoying bunching when putting or addressing the ball. Additionally, the subtle branding on the side pocket is visible while remaining classy.
Sizes: S-XXL
Colors: 2
+ Sophisticated styling
+ Front pockets for convenience
- Limited color options
A gilet or vest should be a staple of every golfer’s wardrobe. They provide that essential body warmth that keeps you going on colder days on the links while allowing the arms to swing with complete freedom, maximising power. The design of this particular option from G/FORE is relatively simple, which bolsters its versatility, but it still manages to add visual appeal to your outfit.
It’s practical too thanks to the two front pockets and double zip. The fit is snug without being too restrictive and the feel of the fabric is soft to the touch. We’ve really enjoyed wearing this gilet on the course and we’re confident you will too.

+ Premium feel
+ Uniquely reversible
- At the top end in terms of price
Yes you read the above correctly, the Eli Vest from B.Draddy is fully reversible. One side is the diamond-quilted shell, and the other is smooth Italian merino wool, which is my personal favorite of the two.
What is immediately apparent with this garment is the quality, it feels outstandingly premium with every detail, such as the level of stitching, dual-direction zipper, and the three pockets.
Like all good vests it offered warmth thanks to the duck down fill, but this doesn’t make it heavy either because the Eli is nicely lightweight. I personally think it looks great on and off the course, works well with sweaters, hoodies and other mid-layers underneath, and comes in three nice colors.
Sizes: S-3XL
Colors: 3
+ Thin, lightweight feel
+ Folds down to nothingReasons to avoid:
- On chiller days will need more layers
Original Penguin have taken a smart aesthetic and blended it with lightweight performance with this Heritage vest. The overall look I love with the contrasting zip color and Penguin logo adding to the style appeal nicely. As mentioned, this vest is incredibly lightweight which makes it ideal for summer golf and when paired with a polo shirt.
Now this may need to be paired with more layering on those slightly colder rounds, but this is no issue as it still feels comfortable underneath a lightweight jacket or rain jacket. I also really like the way it can be folded down to basically nothing as well which makes it easy to store in your bag, and because it’s so light, it doesn’t add any weight to your golf bag.
Hoodies
Sizes: S-XXL
Colors: 5
+ Incredibly lightweight and stretchy material
+ Boasts an incredibly versatile look
- Large hood can be intrusive in the wind
The Magnolia Hoodie from Tiger Woods' Sun Day Red is a fantastic layering piece engineered to bridge the gap across changing conditions on the golf course, with good versatility to help this product look great away from the course, whether that be at the gym or out and about town. Crafted from a high-stretch jersey blend of nylon and elastane, this hoodie is exceptionally lightweight while still providing UPF 50+ sun protection and active moisture-wicking properties.
One of the standout design features is the hooded silhouette, which is cleverly tailored to fit comfortably over a standard golf cap without restricting your vision, however, in the wind, this larger hood does tend to swing around the front a lot and can be a nuisance. Finished with tailored cuffs and a clean hem, it offers a nice fit, which means you don’t have to constantly roll your sleeves up.
Sizes: S-XXL
Colors: 4
+ Incredibly versatile hybrid styling
+ Excellent stretch and durability
- Premium price point
The Hoppin Performance Hoodie from Johnnie-O is an extremely versatile layering piece that brilliantly bridges the gap between technical sportswear and everyday casual style, keeping you looking great both on the golf course and whatever you have planned after your round. Constructed from a unique ribbed knit blend of nylon and elastane, it offers exceptional four-way stretch, meaning your swing isn’t impeded at all, and the breathability compared to standard pullovers is on another level. It’s an ideal option for those chilly mornings where you know it’s going to heat up come late midday.
This hoodie offers a comfortable fit that isn't too tight or baggy, and the hood isn’t too heavy or large to where it gets in the way while swinging. It features subtle, premium touches like a signature drawcord, reflective taping, and laser-cut details.
Sizes: S-XXL
Colors: 6+
+ Exceptionally soft and lightweight
+ Great four-way stretch
- Premium price point
The Pine Performance Hoodie is a great example of elevating a casual staple into a premium piece of golf apparel that works both on and off the course. Crafted from a highly technical blend of polyester and spandex, this hoodie features an incredibly soft brushed interior that provides just the right amount of lightweight warmth for brisk early morning tee times and boasts impressive moisture-wicking properties and UPF 50+ sun protection, ensuring you stay comfortable as the day heats up.
On the course, the four-way stretch fabric truly shines, moving effortlessly with your body to ensure absolutely no restriction during the golf swing, and the hood rarely gets in the way. The tailored, athletic silhouette prevents any excess material from getting in the way or feeling bulky, while the understated design makes it a highly versatile option that looks fantastic.
Sizes: S-2XL

+ Premium hoodie that is one of the softest I’ve ever worn
+ Kangaroo pocket not intrusive
- Extra care is needed when washing
Premium, premium, premium. The Finnooch hoodie was a joy to test, not just because of how high quality the garment felt, but how soft and comfortable it felt while out on the course. Made from 100% Zegna Baruffa Wool, it delivers a fit that hugs your body without being intrusive and restrictive, instead delivering a stretch that you’ll appreciate as you swing.
The ribbed cuffs are another thing I appreciated while playing as I typically like to roll my sleeves up before each swing, meaning the sleeves stayed in place and didn’t intrude. This isn’t a hoodie you can throw into the rest of your wash and put into the washing machine at a higher temperature, but the extra care needed is worth it for how high the quality is here.
Sizes: S-XXL
Colors: 2
+ Stylish, modern design
+ Two zipped front pockets
- Only two color options
Providing your course allows hoodies and it isn’t blowing a gale, this could be the garment you call upon for most of your rounds this year. The camo pattern adds the shelf appeal while the aircooling interlock fabric provides the performance.
This is a comfortable mid layer to wear that has clearly been designed with the golfer in mind - it kept me warm and swinging freely while the navy colorway was easy to match with lots of pants options. The zipped pockets add convenient storage while the hood is worth employing between shots when the temperature drops.
Sizes: S-XXXL
Colors: 1
+ Refined style
+ Incredibly lightweight
- Warmer mid-layers available
Innovation in golf fashion has come a long way and this is demonstrated perfectly by the Penguin Earl Performance golf hoodie, which unfortunately is only available in one color, quiet gray heather. While some would prefer more weight to a golf hoodie, this garment does provide impressive warmth given how light it is. It’s actually hard to convey just how little it weighs and how small it folds up in your golf bag, which are two very attractive features.
While it’s not the warmest hoodie out there, it keeps the cold at bay impressively given its design characteristics. It looks stylish and is versatile – it can work as a second layer on a slightly cool summer’s day or as part of a three- or four-layer set-up in colder conditions. You don’t have to worry about any form of swing restriction and it’s comfortable, too.
Polos
Sizes: S-XXL
Colors: 5
+ Versatile for off course
+ Wide range of colors
- Basic design
The biggest compliment you could pay the Essential Performance polo from G/FORE is that its understated design means you could comfortably wear it away from the course.
A lot of golf polo shirts with vibrant patterns scream golf, limiting their versatility. No such problem here with the simple block color design meaning you’ll find yourself wearing this more than post other golf shirts you own.
The fit is snug without pinching and the material is thin and lightweight, boosting the comfort. There will be softer feeling polo shirts out there but the little design touches, like the silicone tab on the front, the collar stand with the colored strip at the back and the classic tail hem make this a staple for anyone looking to stand out on and off the course.
Sizes: S-XXL
Colors: 5+
+ Incredibly breathable mesh construction
+ Premium button detailing
- Tailored fit may run slightly snug
The Soul Performance Mesh Polo from Peter Millar seamlessly blends vintage aesthetics with modern technical functionality. Part of the premium Crown Crafted collection, it is constructed from a lightweight, highly breathable blend of polyester and spandex mesh, that boasts an exceptional four-way stretch, moisture-wicking capabilities, and odor resistance, ensuring you stay cool and comfortable throughout your round, no matter how hot it gets on the course.
The simplicity behind this polo looks great, notably the structured spread collar and the luxurious two-button design that make it versatile and perfectly suited for post-round drinks in the clubhouse. However, it is worth noting that the athletic, tailored fit features slightly shorter sleeves and a trimmer silhouette through the chest and waist compared to standard fits and so because of this, if you prefer a looser, more traditional garment, we highly recommend sizing up.
Sizes: S-XXL
Colors: 6
+ Exceptional airflow and cooling properties
+ Extremely lightweight
- Roomier Heritage fit may not suit all
The Crosswind Polo from Sun Day Red is a premium top engineered specifically for peak performance in warm weather. It’s crafted from a custom 90% polyester and 10% elastane blend, where it delivers exceptional ventilation, maximizing airflow and wicking away moisture to keep you completely comfortable and dry for when it gets hot on the course.
Style-wise, it features a self-fabric collar with integrated stays to prevent deforming, which is a nice touch. It also has a traditional three-button placket and a unique, soft-touch embossed 15-stripe Tiger logo that avoids the stiffness of heavy embroidery. While this polo is very breathable, it is worth noting that this polo utilizes Sun Day Red's ‘Heritage Fit’, offering a classic, roomier silhouette with slightly longer sleeves. If you prefer a modern, highly tailored athletic cut, this might feel a bit loose, but for unrestricted mobility, it is top-tier.
Sizes: S-3XL
Colors: 1
+ Excellent stretch and mobility
+ Great UPF 50 sun protection
- Print may not suit traditionalists
The Beach Break Performance Polo from Johnnie-O brings a coastal vibe to the fairways without sacrificing any technical performance. Constructed from a lightweight, breathable blend of polyester and spandex, it features exceptional four-way stretch, allowing for total freedom of movement during your swing.
The fabric does a great job in wicking away moisture to keep you cool on warm days, while the UPF 50 rating provides protection against the sun on warm days. The wrinkle-resistant material means it always looks sharp straight from the wardrobe, and the subtle surfing print perfectly balances casual and sporty aesthetics on the course. The Performance is an outstanding, easy-care option that transitions effortlessly everywhere.
Sizes: S-2XL
Colors: 3
+ Classy, premium aesthetic
+ Versatile and comfortableReasons to avoid:
- Pocket perhaps unnecessary
I always like a striped polo and one of my recent favorites is the Coffey from B.Draddy. I think the pocket is a touch unnecessary but many people will like the addition. Regardless this is still a premium, classy looking polo that works on and off the course in all three of the colors it comes in.
Made from the brand’s signature Peruvian Pima cotton, I found it to be soft, comfortable and there are a number of other design touches I like. For example the collar is never uncomfortable or obstructive, the overall length of the polo was just right for me, and it comes with built-in sun protection, something to never take for granted.
Sizes: S-2XL
Colors: 2
+ Soft and stretchy material
+ Print great for summer golf
- All over print will divide opinion
Snippet: I’ve been a big fan of Original Penguin gear over the years, as have some of my colleagues at Golf Monthly because it allows you to show a bit of personality and aesthetically do something a bit different. This continues in 2026 with this Bow Tie polo which is an all-over print which blends nicely and almost looks like a solid color when far away, and you can then see the bow tie detailing close up.
Performance isn’t compromised especially from a comfort perspective. The fabric blend feels lovely and soft, whilst I found it to stretch extremely well too. It is also very lightweight making it ideal for those hot summer rounds and importantly it is easy to wash and dry. There are two colors to choose from with plenty of sizes.
Pants
Sizes: S-XXL
Colors: 5
+ Perfect fit
+ Can easily be worn off the golf course
- Straight leg finish not for all
The G FORE Tour 5 Pocket 4-Way Stretch Straight Leg Trouser is easily among the very best golf pants you can buy. They have been designed with input from professional golfers to be lightweight, stretchy, breathable and moisture-wicking. You’ll get a lovely tailored, straight-leg fit and five pockets including two stitched-on at the back which makes them blend in for everyday wear.
You can wear them almost anywhere so you’re getting good value for money with these premium trousers. In terms of colors, there are five good, basic options to choose from.
There really isn’t much to say about these other than they’re absolutely excellent. They are expensive but certainly good value for money with how much wear they will inevitably get.
Sizes: 30-44
Colors: 11
+ Lightweight and comfortable
+ Premium looks and colors
- Price might be only stumbling block
Without doubt my favorite pair of golf pants right now are the eb66 Performance Pants from Peter Millar. As you would expect from the brand, they offer premium performance which does mean they come with a premium price, but given my experience of testing them, they are definitely worth it.
The fabric is 100% polyester and feels comfortable against the skin, whilst the two-way stretch delivered when playing shots, moving around and getting into different stances on the course. They feel extremely well-made and the little details like the five pockets and inner stitching, elevating the pants further. Finally they look fantastic everywhere, come in loads of colors, and have a classic look and fit which many golfers will enjoy. A five-star pair of pants.
Sizes: 30-40
Colors: 5
+ On/off course use
+ Super comfortable
- Tapered fit not for all
The Jupiter 5 pocket pants might have just become my new favorites on the market, competing heavily with the Peter Millar eb66, and the Bonobos Performance pants. Why? Well first I think the versatility here is clear to see as these pants can be used everywhere, I know this because I have done so. I tested the Iron finish but there are four other colors each of which look great in different situations and as part of various outfits. Comfort is also king when it comes to golf pants and the Jupiter’s delivered here.
The Japanese fabric blend gives a wide range of motion and a lightweight feel, to the point where I found them comfortable despite wearing them all day on more than one occasion. Admittedly the tapered fit might not be for all but I like this kind of aesthetic, and I also liked three subtle branding throughout. There is no shouting about Sun Day Red, just subtle, high-quality performance.
Sizes: 30-40
Colors: 3
+ Excellent stretch
+ Slimmer fit by ankles
- Best for athletic fit
Based on the brand’s best-selling Fusionn shorts, I had high hopes for the Knit Performance Pants from Johnnie-O. Whilst I will admit right away that they will best suit those with an athletic build, and those that prefer a slimmer fit down by the ankles, I think the unique design should definitely be one to consider if you are in the market for a new pair of golf pants.
The uniqueness comes from the pull-on style, with the button by the waistband being purely cosmetic really. Given this design the pants stretch beautifully and have an almost tailored feel, especially around the waistband which doesn’t feel restrictive at all. The comfort was immediately noticeably when putting these pants on and a couple of other elements I liked were the magnetic pocket closures, and you can get these in three neutral, versatile colors.
Sizes: 28-40
Colors: 5
+ Lovely tailored fit
+ Versatile enough to wear on and off the course
- Price could be a stumbling block
Pants are a weird one in the sense they aren’t maybe as exciting as a new pullover, ¼ zip or golf hoodie. I wasn’t overly excited when I took the Brian pants out of the packaging, but I quickly fell in love with them after a few minutes of wear. Made by B.Draddy, which is a brand all golfers need to know about given the overall quality of the apparel, they come in several versatile colors.
The tailored fit was perfect for me and was complimented beautifully by the soft feel of the premium Peruvian Prima cotton.
The pockets are deep enough to carry everything you need out on the course or your keys and wallet if you’re heading out for dinner or to the bar in the evening where these pants will seamlessly match your smart casual fit. The price might put some potential buyers off, but I expect these pants to be regularly in my rotation for many years to come.
Sizes: 26-40
Colors: 6
+ Unbeatable stretch
+ Incredibly lightweight and breathable
- Crease up quite easily
Lululemon made its name in activewear, and as soon as I put on the ABC trousers that heritage became very clear. These are perhaps the stretchiest and least restrictive trousers I have ever worn. Combined with the fact that the material is very lightweight, they are an absolute dream to wear. In terms of pure comfort these may be the best trousers in the world, not just golf.
The pockets are deep and well placed, the selections of colours and sizes are ideal, there really is not a lot you can argue with. With that in mind, there are two small issues to mention. Firstly, the material does crease up quicker than other golf trousers I have worn. While this isn’t a deal breaker, it’s worth bearing in mind if you are adverse to using an iron. Finally the price point may be restrictive to those golfing on a budget.
How we test golf apparel
We test golf apparel in the same way we test all golf equipment, by using products properly. In relation to designer clothing this means putting them to the test out on the golf course to see if the products actually work and if they achieve what they are designed to do. We would also wear the products off the golf course as well because versatility to use a garment anywhere is a great way to get value for money.
Specifically all members of the Golf Monthly team are regular golfers and we utilize the entire team when testing golf apparel because there are so many brands to test out there. That is why you can see so many different faces above. What is important though is we all test golf apparel efficiently, thoroughly, and then are able to pass on performance verdicts with insight and honesty.
The final point we wanted to mention here is no manufacturer can pay for a good review because our thorough testing team tells it how it is.
How to choose your golf apparel
There are several factors to consider when it comes to buying a golf apparel and here we have listed them.
Type
What we mean here is what type of golf apparel are you after? Clothing is a vague term so have a think about your golfing wardrobe and see where your gaps are. That way you can inform your buying intent more. Obviously it is worth noting the time of year because in the selections above we not only have included lightweight golf jackets and golf hoodies for colder weather, but also polo shirts and shorts for the summer months.
Material
Linking with the above point, knowing what you are after will help you decide what material to go for. The fleece models above will keep the cold at bay whilst ones with more spandex in them will help you move easier and won't restrict the golf swing in any way. Additionally we have found the models with cotton in them are often the best for wearing out and about as well, and they are very easy to wash.
Movement
One of the big things around golf clothing is freedom of movement and whether they can restrict or negatively impact the swing. From jackets to pants the apparel needs to move properly and not hinder your swing. As such, we would recommend trying on models and taking swings in them to see if you still offer the same range of movement.
Looks
