Adam Scott has become the 17th person to be crowned Golf World Number One and he managed it without even playing at the weekend

With Tiger Woods still recovering from injury Adam Scott was crowned Golf World Number One this morning as the World Rankings were released

Woods has been losing 0.2 points a week during his injury lay off and Scott managed to overhaul him following the HP Byron Nelson Championship at the weekend - even though the Aussie was not actually competing.

Scott has had a solid if unspectacular season with three Top Ten finishes on the PGA Tour.

Speaking to one of his sponsors, UNIQLO, Scott commented on his achievement.

"Achieving the World Number One ranking has been a goal of mine from when I first started playing golf. I am tremendously happy to have achieved this goal."

Scott will have his work cut out to keep the top spot on the ranking as the top 5 in the world ranking are currently covered by just a single point.
