Best Lightweight Golf Jackets 2026
Check out some of our favorite lightweight golf jackets, that'll keep you well protected from the elements without the bulk.
There's nothing worse than getting caught in the rain on the golf course. Trying to play golf when you're soaked through is a nightmare, and speaking from experience, it pays to be prepared. From our perspective, having a lightweight waterproof jacket is an essential item that every player should have in their wardrobe. While the best golf rain jackets deliver excellent warmth and protection, they can sometimes be a bit heavy, clunky and unnecessary if you're just playing through a light shower.
For that reason, it's good to have a go-between that you can store in your golf bag and pull out whenever the rain comes down. That's where a lightweight golf jacket comes in handy, with these options keeping you both warm and dry on the course without any bulk or weight that can hinder the golf swing. In fact, many of our favorite options included in this guide are both great for the golf course, but can also be used out and about in your daily life. They all blend style and performance to help you look smart and stay dry in whatever you're up to. So, if you're looking for a new lightweight golf jacket, check out some of the excellent options we have tested below. If you're after something a little more robust though, then we've got plenty of other fantastic jackets on our guides to the best golf waterproofs and the best golf rain gear.

+ Clean design
+ Water repellent protection
- Lacks the technical features offered by other brands
This sleek jacket is an excellent outer layer for changing conditions. It’s lightweight, very stretchy and can easily be packed into a bag if the temperature starts to rise. The all black design goes well with almost anything, and the classic collar provides a touch of sophistication to any outfit. Thanks to the water repellent shell, this jacket also provides a solid level of protection from the elements which is ideal if you play golf in a temperamental climate.
Two side pockets also offer good storage and the soft fabric feels great against your skin if you’ve only opted for a polo shirt underneath. The lack of color options and technical features do mark this jacket down slightly, but it’s still a very solid option for those style conscious golfers who like to tee it up year round.

+ Excellent lightweight layering piece
+ Velcro cuffs keep sleeves nicely out of the way
- Only water resistant
The Dunes Jacket from Peter Millar is an outstanding outerwear option for those cooler, unpredictable days on the golf course, where you might get caught in a shower or two. Constructed from a highly technical double-weave performance fabric featuring a blend of polyester and spandex, this jacket manages to be incredibly soft and lightweight, protecting you from the elements, but can be easily stowed in your bag when not in use.
What really stands out is the complete freedom of movement it provides, thanks to the four-way stretch construction, which ensures your golf swing remains fluid and unrestricted. The smart inclusion of adjustable velcro cuffs helps lock out the rain, making sure the sleeves never slide down to interfere with your grip or backswing, and rain doesn’t run up your arms. Featuring a practical two-way zipper and a refined, classic silhouette, it’s extremely versatile.

+ Versatile for on/off course
+ Adaptable and comfortable
- Drawcords can be a little distracting
Earlier this year we enjoyed testing the Zukor Jacket from Johnnie-O but in my opinion the bar has been raised further by the Marshall Jacket. A full-zip hooded model, as the name suggests it is as light as a feather, and yet it performed well in breezy conditions making it a good windbreaker as well. I must admit I am not a fan of the drawcords which can move around and be a little distracting, but this is a minor point because I think the jacket looks great on and off the course, provides a good amount of stretch thanks to the fabric construction, and works well with other layers. The 2-way zipper was a nice touch as well, giving comfort when sitting down in particular. There are three colors to choose from with the Seal model pictured here being the pick of the bunch in my opinion.

+ Premium look and feel
+ Lightweight but solid weather protection
- Only two color choices
Based on the best-selling Everyday Vest, B.Draddy’s Everyday Jacket is another worthy inclusion in this guide. First up I think it looks great, it has a premium aesthetic that works on and off the course, and despite it only being available in two colors, it remains stylish and classy.
The shell is made from a polyester fabric which features water and wind resistance as part of its design, and I must say the performance here was solid. The arms and sides have a spandex fabric present which really stretches beautifully, adds to the overall lightweight feel of the jacket and makes it breathable too. The two side pockets and chest pocket add some practicality to an overall excellent jacket here.

+ Looks great
+ Good stretch and warmth
- The grid design not for all
A lightweight jacket is still a must during those spring and summer rounds because in the morning or when the sun sets it can get cold very quickly indeed. A jacket to help deal with that is the Insulated Grid garment from Sun Day Red. Featuring a lightweight feel, it still delivers good warmth thanks to the Primaloft fill insulation and overall it feels like an extremely well-made garment.
From an aesthetic point of view, I think the jacket looks great but I do think the grid design may put some off. However this Polartec Powergrid fleece at the back and sleeves gave excellent stretch and mobility. The jacket really moved nicely and I think it paired well with other mid-layers and tops underneath. There are only two colors to choose from but black and navy go with everything so I am confident in the jackets versatility.

+ Lightweight and stretchy
+ Will protect you against light showers and mist
- No waistline adjustability
I was impressed with the entire Footjoy Tempo range for a number of reasons. The full zip jacket is a great option that folds up small in your bag, doesn’t crease and provides a great option as an extra layer for those evening summer rounds or if some unexpected light rain rolls through.
Although I would have loved a tassel to be able to adjust the waistline of the jacket, it is the only critique I can make. It feels lightweight and stretchy, making it perfect for your golf swing. It’s wonderfully breathable as well, meaning it can be worn on warm days as well as chilly ones.

+ Excellent wind protection with a lightweight feel
+ Versatile, sporty styling
- Loose fit may require sizing down for a traditional look
My first observation of this adidas Windbreaker was the innovative ‘spring-like’ stretch of the fabric, which provides a flexible fit that moves naturally through your golf swing. This piece is specifically engineered for versatility, featuring a full-body lining that adds a surprising layer of warmth against the chill without feeling bulky or restrictive.
The modern, loose silhouette and high-neck design offer a contemporary aesthetic that transitions seamlessly from a breezy morning on the links to a casual afternoon in the city. With its iconic 3-stripe sleeve detailing and durable recycled construction, this windbreaker is an essential outer layer for the active golfer who prioritises both technical performance and a clean, athletic style. It truly excels as a high-functioning garment that works just as effectively on the street as it does beyond the final green.

+ Highly breathable
+ Playable fit
- Looks more like it was designed for off the course
If you play golf all year round you’re going to need a playable jacket that is substantial enough to keep all but the worst of weather at bay and the Parachute windbreaker does a very good job of this. The mesh lining ensures good airflow, so you remain comfortable as the temperature changes. The stretch shell combats the wind very well and provides protection from light rain too. We enjoyed the extra details like the inner zip pocket and the double zip, which provides some extra room at the bottom for those who need it. The elasticated cuffs and drawstring at the waist provide a tailored fit that removes excess material that can be distracting during the swing. It’s not cheap but this is a stylish, versatile jacket that will serve you well in a variety of weather conditions.

+ Iconic streetwear aesthetic
+ Exceptional airflow design
- Relaxed silhouette may feel oversized for some
The Malbon Pine Windshirt is a superbly premium garment, with its technical nylon-spandex blend providing a lightweight, stretchy feel that adapts perfectly to your follow-through. Part of the ‘Icons’ lineup, this piece features a signature open back vent and an adjustable drawcord waistband, ensuring you stay cool and comfortable during breezy afternoon rounds.
The minimalist black colorway is elevated by the embroidered ‘Buckets’ logo and bold script branding, striking a balance between heritage golf and modern street style. With functional front pockets and a versatile half-zip funnel neck, it’s a stylish transition piece that works as well at the 19th hole as it does on the fairway. Ideal for the golfer seeking a relaxed, contemporary edge without sacrificing essential on-course breathability.

+ Lightweight and comfortable
+ Water and wind resistance
- No zips on pockets
This jacket is a great option to grab from your golf bag when the conditions switch on the course, but it also works well as a companion on a chilly day at the golf club or even a long dog walk with the family. The water and wind resistance offers protection against almost anything the elements can throw at you, but the comfort and fit help to make this jacket look and feel premium.
Ideally, I would like the pockets to have zips - which seems a rather large omission from a golf jacket - but I am willing to forgive it for that as I truly love the way it fits and the simple, classic look it provides.
Sizes: S-XL

+ Extremely lightweight
+ Great wrist cuffs
- Not overly warm
The Puma Wind Jacket is a lightweight ½ zip wind jacket perfect for when you need an extra layer on the golf course. It doesn’t offer a great deal of warmth and is extremely stretchy to the point where you can barely feel it when swinging. The jacket comes with two fairly small zipped pockets for your hands along with a large chest pocket that is easily large enough to fit your phone or scorecard.
It’s extremely comfortably to wear, and we found it to come in a slightly slim fit despite being labeled as regular. It features a good quality main zipper and nice elasticated wrist cuffs, while there's also an adjustable waist hem. The basic styling is inoffensive and it comes in two color options.
Sizes: S-XXL
Colors: 3
+ Retro vibe pattern that looks great
+ Short sleeve option for free swing
- More colorways would offer pairing options
This is a great little garment - providing warmth on a cooler day with all the freedom of movement you could ever want in the golf swing. The short sleeve means you can throw this on over a polo shirt and stroll the fairways in complete comfort, while also looking great thanks to the retro vibe of the pattern and design.
The blue, green and white colours on this particular piece go great with a pair of navy trousers or shorts, but additional colorways would allow for a greater range of pairing options that could really make this a staple item for your golfing wardrobe. Lightweight and breathable, this item can sit in your golf bag and be called into action at a moment’s notice to rescue you from a sudden temperature drop or spot of rain.

+ Extremely versatile in terms of both when and where to wear
+ Lightweight and flexible
- Only water resistant
If you’re looking at the weather forecast and you aren’t exactly sure what the conditions will be during your fall/winter round of golf, the Northwood Jacket will become your go to. It’s a pleasant extra layer to wear during colder days and thanks to the water resistant material on the front, will save you if an unexpected shower rolls in.
If said rain is sustained over a longer period of time, you might have to reach for a proper waterproof jacket, but the Northwood Jacket at least protects you for light or short showers. It’s lightweight, stretchy and is clearly made with the golfer in mind. Plenty of pocket space in the three front pockets is also a welcome feature.

+ Extremely comfortable
+ Elasticated cuffs and adjustability
- Would love more colors
I have been a fan of Lululemon apparel for a while now and this continues with garments like this. This is one of the most comfortable pullover quarter-zips I’ve ever tested thanks to the stretchy fabric construction of recycled nylon, lycra and elastane. At times I forgot I was even wearing it, which is testament to its lightweight comfort whilst the brand has clearly thought about other details as well, such as the elasticated cuffs and adjustability in the hem. This fabric is also windproof, water and abrasion resistant and UV protective too.
It was roomy in the chest and waist but not too much that I felt hampered during the swing. Speaking of which, the fabric does make a slight rustling when swinging, and I wish more colors were available, but these are such minor points and don’t take away from what is an excellent top.

+ Soft, comfortable fabric
+ Smart aesthetic
- Perhaps slightly heavier than other models
Having tested Original Penguin gear for a few years now I can surmise they tend to offer style, functionality and they are usually comfortable too. This is certainly true with the Heritage Knit Track Jacket I tested here. It is made from a double knit fabric which feels lovely and warm, which additionally makes it one of the more comfortable golf jackets I’ve tested out.
This fabric does make the jacket feel a touch heavier than others on this list, but this is a small nit-pick because it still performs well and stretches nicely. Finally it is perhaps one of the more understated garments in the latest range which I think gives it a smart aesthetic and therefore works on and off the course.

+ Lightweight and unrestricted
+ Easy off-course wearability
- Hybrid-material design might not appeal to everyone
The Glenmuir Dalton golf jacket combines a lightweight quilted torso panel with soft-combed cotton sleeves to create a different offering to many other options in this area. I found the body area to be slightly thinner than I’d expected, although it did offer reasonable warmth in cooler conditions.
That said, a midlayer is likely needed when the weather turns chilly and windy, with the conditions felt through the arms in particular. The hybrid material design will split opinion, however, it absolutely offers the freedom of movement you would expect out on the course. The ribbed cuffs and hem ensured the Dalton fit efficiently and its modest design means you can easily wear it away from the golf course as well.

+ Incredibly light
+ Ample wind and shower protection
- Very thin material almost see through
The Galvin Green Luis is a game-changing short-sleeved wind top that redefines lightweight performance. Weighing just 94 grams, the equivalent to only two golf balls, it eliminates the bulk and restriction often associated with traditional weather protection. Constructed from an ultra-thin, stretchy fabric, the Luis provides impressive wind resistance and surprising water repellency, with moisture beading off the surface during light showers.
Its minimalist design ensures maximum freedom of movement, preventing any bunching at the elbows or wrists during the swing. While the material is somewhat translucent, its versatility is unmatched; it excels as a winter mid-layer or a standalone spring outer. Highly packable and stylishly tailored with an adjustable hem, it’s an essential, high-performance investment for golfers seeking protection without the weight.

+ Good warmth
+ Adjustable wrist cuffs and waist hem
- Not fully waterproof
The half zip wind jacket from Callaway is a fantastic and versatile option for those cold and showery days on the golf course. It offers up a good amount of warmth to protect you from the wind, and it also has water repellent properties to keep you dry in light rains.
It comes with a good amount of stretch thanks to a 91% polyester and 9% spandex design, while it offers great comfort thanks to adjustable wrist cuffs and an adjustable waist hem. You get two good sized hand pockets, which both come with zips. Overall, there’s a lot to like with this jacket.

+ Lightweight
+ Windproof and water-resistant
- Fairly basic design
Jackets play an important role in the summer months, with passing showers and spells of unpredictable weather often coming at the same time as warm temperatures and humidity. As such, you need a garment that’s lightweight enough to stop you overheating, but which offers enough protection from the elements. It can be a tricky balance to find, but the Ping Vigo half-zip jacket manages it well. It’s constructed from advanced windproof stretch fabric, which provides golfers with unrestricted mobility. There’s a zip chest pocket and also a concealed back zip pocket, which is an interesting touch. The Vigo isn’t going to offer complete protection from a dramatic downpour, but it’s functional and pleasing on the eye.

+ Lightweight, flexible material
+ Stylish, understated look
- Only really suitable for light rain showers
The Castore LVS Woven Jacket is made from a 92% Polyester, 8% Elastane material, making it very lightweight and comfortable to wear. The Layered Ventilation System (LVS) is designed to be breathable, and this works well with the aid of a mesh insert in the front panels. Its stretchy material is perfect for swinging a club freely and the velcro cuffs work better than many jackets I’ve tested. Its understated, dark design makes it a stylish option for those not looking to stand out from the crowd on the course. It’s water repellent and does a good job of keeping out light showers, although it will struggle when the rain turns heavier. All in all, this is a solid, modern offering, with everything you need from a spring/summer jacket.

+ Packable design for golf bags
+ Water resistant
- Slim fit may not suit all body types
The lightweight packable jacket is a great addition to any golfers attire. It features a striking and crisp design which looks great and makes you feel like you can play your best golf. It is lightweight and packs down into a small form factor, making it easy to carry around with you and throw on when the weather turns or the wind picks up and you need that extra layer to get your around the last few holes of the day.
It is also water resistant which means that it will keep your under-layers dry when showers come in and you want to stay warm and dry. The jacket features a pocket at the sides and rear allowing you to store items such as tees or golf gloves, meaning that you can keep your other pockets free and not restrict your golf swing.

+ Good value for money
+ Lightweight stretchy fabric
- Half sleeves sit at an awkward length
As with the whole Sun Mountain Monsoon range (there’s a full zip waterproof jacket and waterproof trousers), this pullover offer outstanding value considering its quality and performance in wet conditions. It’s got 15k waterproof rating - good enough to withstanding prolongs periods of heavy rain - and is fully seam sealed to avoid leaking. It’s windproof and the fabric is so stretchy you can barely feel its on over a midlayer or polo.
Maybe this is because I’m bias against half sleeve wind jackets (why not give me the full arm?), but I found the length of the sleeve, which just went below my elbow, a little awkward and frustrating. If you like a half sleeve, then you’ll be more than happy, but if anything this garment confirmed to me I prefer a full length sleeve!

+ Very lightweight
+ Great fit, especially around the cuffs
- More darker color options would be nice
Given the spring/summer weather, where the temperature rises but the rain is still a possibility, a lightweight water-repellent jacket is always needed and this is where this offering from Mizuno comes in.
Firstly, I found it to be incredibly lightweight and breathable, while the overall fit was similar to that of the other Mizuno clothes I trialed on the day. What I particularly liked was the fit on the cuffs, which didn't get in the way of the grip when holding the club, while the excess material didn't affect my swing whatsoever.
Personally, I'd like to see more darker color options, as when it rains the blue option does show up water quickly. Overall, though, I was very happy with the performance of this water-repellent and lightweight jacket.

+ Smart look
+ Can easily be worn away from the course
- Not appropriate for the worst weather
If you are looking for a smart jacket to wear both on and off the course, this option from Tennessee brand, Turtleson, is well worth considering. The first thing I noticed was the streamlined fit. It is comfortable to wear (even with a couple of layers underneath) without being in any way baggy or bulky.
Even though this is a smart jacket you could easily wear out to dinner, it is also designed to be worn for golf. The fabric is both water/wind resistant and stretches with your body as you swing. This makes it a really versatile garment that delivers a modern, sharp look whether you wear it on or off the course.

+ Decent warmth in a half sleeve option
+ Good pocket space
- Fairly ordinary design
This is a layer that comes into its own when it’s cool and breezy, ideal for when you’re playing on an exposed course. The outer technical fabric remains fairly quiet when you’re swinging, and it’s very light and easy to stow away in your bag. The waterproof zips, side adjuster tabs, and shockcord drawstring are all handy features, and although it’s not a ‘wow’ layer, there’s no faulting its functionality. Not everyone will like the nest liner, as it does add a bit of bulk. However, it also generates extra warmth, which some golfers will like. There’s ample pocket room, too, with one main space across the waist accessible via two zipped pockets - which is a little unusual but certainly has its benefits. The single-colour black-and-navy look a little ordinary, while the other three colour combinations offer more appeal.

+ Impressive waterproofing
+ Very reasonable price
- Water can run on to, and soak, the elasticated cuff
The Weather Tech jacket from Stromberg is in with a decent chance of becoming a fixture in my bag. Firstly, I’m a big fan of its simple and understated look in the Peacoat colourway I had on test. (Peacoat is really just a nice blue. I’ll let you discover what the Tapshoe/Castlerock alternative looks like in your own time.) The fit is reasonably ‘athletic’ – my large provided a flattering silhouette without being restrictive, and there’s a small amount of stretch provided by the use of a little (4%) elastane.
The Weather Tech is designed to handle a lot of wetness – the waterproof rating of 5000mm means, in theory, you could stand until that much rain had fallen before it’d wet out. I don’t recommend such behaviour, but can confirm the DWR treated fabric and fully taped seams do a good job of keeping sustained moisture out.
Sizes: S-5XL

+ Easy to swing in
+ Lightweight and warm
- Long body can bunch up when sitting
The Fazer Men's Ellesmere Quilted Full Zip Golf Jacket provides good lightweight warmth. The stretchy material – 95% Polyester, 5% Elastane – makes it easy to swing in. The body is long, so it keeps you covered around the midriff during the swing. But the downside to this is that the garment bunches up slightly when you sit.
There are two deep zipped pockets low at the front, handy when playing, especially as the zips are easily manoeuvrable. But when sitting, anything in these can make it uncomfortable. This jacket is excellently suited to the course, more so than to the 19th hole.
How we test
When it comes to testing lightweight jackets, and indeed all apparel, our ethos and methodology revolves around putting the gear on, and using it out on the golf course, in different conditions. Obviously to test waterproofing we game the apparel in wet conditions, and we have also gone to extreme measures before, like pouring water all over the jackets to test how seam-sealed they are.
We think the best way of actually testing golf products is to use them thoroughly on the golf course, over a number of rounds, but we also try them off the golf course too because some models are extremely versatile. We then use these experiences to create reviews and buying advice content. Speaking of which we should make very clear, no manufacturer can buy a good review from us, we tell it how we see it.
How to choose a golf jacket
So what are some of the factors you need to consider when trying to find the right lightweight golf jacket for you? Let's take a look.
1. Waterproofing
Obviously the most important thing is waterproofing. If a jacket doesn't keep the rain at bay, regardless of strength and duration, then it isn't worth having. Thankfully pretty much all of the models above will protect you from the rain in excellent fashion largely because they have been designed specifically for that purpose.
In terms of specifics, when doing your research be aware of the phrase 'water resistant' because this does not mean the jacket is completely waterproof, and also check if jackets have been seam-sealed because this is usually a great barometer of how waterproof a jacket is. We would also recommend checking if some models have a waterproof warranty, as well as having a look at our best golf rain gear or best golf rain pants guides.
2. Protection
A good waterproof jacket will also help you in the wind and cold too. The best models stop the wind penetrating the fabric and making your core cold, and also have nice features like fleece lined pockets to give you some respite from the poor conditions.
3. Color
If you are wearing it, you have to like what it looks like. No longer are golf rain jackets drab and boring to look at because now there are designs for all fashion senses. It is just a case of picking a design and color you like.
4. Freedom of movement
With all this protection, occasionally rain jackets can be large and cumbersome but in modern golf design this is no longer the case. Most really good models stretch and move with the body freely so that your swing isn't hindered despite having a few layers on.
5. Budget
Finally be aware of your budget as the best golf jackets don't come cheap! Importantly, we've listed several models above that come at both premium and value price points so there is something for everyone.

FAQs
What makes a good golf jacket?
There are several elements to a good golf jacket, with the first being warmth. A jacket needs to deliver warmth and protection from the elements otherwise you'll get soaked and uncomfortable on the course. Next is flexibility. It needs to provide you with comfort and a full range of movement. And the last is being lightweight - no body want's to be weighed down by heavy golf gear.
Should I always carry a lightweight golf jacket in my bag?
It is advisable to carry a lightweight waterproof golf jacket in your bag as you never know when the weather will turn on the course. While you may be concerned about that weighing your bag down, there are plenty of options in this guide that way next to nothing and are unnoticeable in your bag.
Can you play golf in a padded down jacket?
Yes you can! Some of the options in this guide are padded, yet you may want to be careful when playing in padded down jackets. These can have a tendency to rip as their material can be quite fragile. For that reason I'd personally avoid playing in down jackets, despite the warmth they can deliver.
