Woods vs Garcia

Sergio Garcia has apologised 'unreservedly' after making an ill-advised comment about Tiger Woods at last night's European Tour Players' Awards.

Garcia and Woods have been embrolied in a well-documented war of words since the Players Championship.

And the Spaniard increased tensions even more by saying he would have Woods round every night at the US Open for fried chicken.

In a hastily arranged news conference at the BMW PGA Championship, a clearly troubled Garcia offered an apology.

"I want to offer an unreserved apology. I didn't mean to offend anyone," he said.

"I was caught off guard, but my answer was totally stupid and out of place.

"I'd like to say sorry to the European Tour, my Ryder Cup team mates and to Tiger. I feel sick about it. I'm truly, truly sorry.

"I was caught off guard. I simply tried to give a funny answer, which came out totally wrong. I can't apologise enough.

"I've had a sick feeling all day. I haven't been able to hit a shot since without thinking about it."

Garcia also confirmed he'd considered pulling out of the tournament, but that he quickly banished such thoughts.

"My mind isn't in the greatest place but I feel like the tournament deserves to have me. I'm going to go out and give it everything," he said.

The Spaniard also said both Tim Finchem, PGA Tour Commissioner, and George O'Grady, Chief Executive of the European Tour, had accepted his apology.
