Chambers Bay hole-by-hole guide: Hole 14
A guide to hole 14, named 'Cape Fear'
A guide to Chambers Bay's hole 14 ahead of the 2015 US Open.
Chambers Bay hole 14 - Cape Fear - Par 4 - 512/546 yards
Players approaching the 14th tee will hope that the hole they're about to play isn't as frightening as the Robert De Niro film from 1991 it shares its name with.
Thankfully, there are no crazed killers to contend with on this hole. However, players will be aware that Cape Fear is downhill, with sand stretching close to the left-hand side all the way down to the green. The fairway slopes from right to left as well, as if to tempt you to aim too close to the sand.
The name owes partly to the importance of selecting the right tee shot. Fear of not getting it right may send you towards the sand, with wind an added menace.
Peter Uihlein made an excellent 25-foot putt for birdie on this hole in 2010.
