Walker Cup reserve David Law to play in KLM Open
First reserve for the GB & Ireland team, David Law, will compete at KLM Open next weekend instead of staying in Scotland for the Walker Cup at Royal Aberdeen
Walker Cup reserve David Law has accepted an invitation to play in the KLM Open at Hilversum next weekend instead of the Walker Cup.
The Scot felt hard done by to miss out on the GB & Ireland squad that will face the Americans in his home town, Aberdeen, and has now opted to play in the European Tour event.
The KLM Open is set to feature a strong field headed by US Open winner Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer.
Law has admitted it would have been 'very hard' as first reserve to be a spectator of the Walker Cup in at Royal Aberdeen.
Law, said: "I've been given an invitation to play in the KLM Open next week, so it will be nice to get out of Aberdeen the week of the Walker Cup.
"I was down for a few days, for sure, but I just had to get back competing and playing golf again. It is nice to playing in a big European Tour event."
On missing the squad, Law said: "They have ideas on what the team should be and they think they have the players to win the match. I will obviously be supporting the guys and I hope they win, but it would be very hard for me to be there."
