15 Things You Didn't Know About Titleist
1. Titleist was founded in 1932 by Phillip E. Young.
2. As an amateur, Young missed a short putt in a match at Bedford Country Club and felt that the fault lay with the ball, and not his own performance on the green. He took that theory one step further, and decided to x-ray the ball in question. Intriguingly, he found that the centre was off, which lead to the start of a journey towards creating the perfect golf ball. To achieve this, Young contact MIT graduate Fred Bommer, and in 1935 their first Titleist ball was ready.
3. The name is actually pronounced 'title-ist', to signify having the most titles. In golf, winning is everything, not just for the players but also club and equipment manufacturers too.
4. The first event Titleist won the ball count in was the 1949 US Open at Medinah Country Club.
5. The iconic logo was the creation of Helen Robinson, an office secretary known for her exquisite handwriting. Helen was given a piece of paper and asked to write the word 'Titleist', with the result becoming the famous logo.

9. Titleist and Bob Vokey's partnership started in 1996 and his first project was helping with the Titleist 975D driver. Eventually he would start specialising in wedges.
10. Five years after the creation of their first golf ball in 1935, Titleist introduced the option to personalise. The double digit numbers were produced for Presidents who were fond of golf. The numbers reflected their presidential number, with Obama (44), Bush (43) and Clinton (42) all receiving this special service.
