100/1 was on offer if you were brave enough to even suggest Billy Horschel could win the FedEx Cup this time last year.
For a man who gets dressed in the dark, he’s done alright for himself. But with only two top 10’s and sitting 69th in the FedEx standings, any money thrown on Billy would have been reckless at best coming into the play-offs.
After a missed cut at the Barclays, 150/1 was on offer at the subsequent Deutsche Bank Championship, with him now sitting 82nd in the rankings. Despite a 2nd place there, you could have still found 60/1 the week after when he won.
And at the season-ending Tour Championship, bookies offered 20/1 early doors – basically, bookies have been throwing money at Horschel backers the last few weeks.
But value was always going to be tough to come by in a 30-man field, well 29 after Dustin Johnson’s antics. Japanese sensation Matsuyama at 66/1 caught our eye, especially with course links to Muirfield, the scene of his first win earlier in the season.

At the top end, we went in with the three-pronged attack of Furyk (12/1), Fowler (14/1) and Speith (20/1). All were outright meaning we shaved yet more weeks off our lives watching Furyk record his 4th runner-up finish of the year.
McIlroy (7/2) came joint 2nd while Kirk (50/1), Rose (16/1) and Day (28/1) shared the final spot for place money, meaning only people on the Horschel Express could come away happy.
As ever though, the European Tour served up some right value this week. In Holland, at the KLM Open, the reinvigorated Paul Casey stole the show and 25/1 was up for grabs Monday morning.
Course specialist Simon Dyson placed at 28/1 alongside spaceman Andy Sullivan (140/1) and Eddie Pepperell (60/1). Young Swede Johan Carlsson put in one of the performances of the week finishing tied for 5th – he started in the betting at 300/1.
Tyrell Hatton (80/1), a man with questionable temperament, name and putting stroke, came closest in our own betting ventures.
With the PGA Tour over for now, all eyes this week are on Celtic Manor for the Wales Open. Among the favorites are 4 European Ryder Cup warriors – Donaldson (14/1), Westwood (16/1), Gallacher (22/1) and Thomas Bjorn (33/1).
