Preliminary GB&I Curtis Cup squad announced

A preliminary squad of 12 players has been announced for the upcoming Curtis Cup match against America

The Ladies Golf Union international selection panel has today named a preliminary GB&I squad of 12 players to take on America.

The 37th Curtis Cup match will take place at Nairn Golf Club in Scotland from June 8-10, 2012.

The GB&I Curtis Cup team is captained by Tegwen Matthews, who, along with the LGU selection panel, will watch those selected as they embark upon a three-day team trial at The Nairn Golf Club's championship links from Friday to Sunday, March 23-25.

The team is as follows:

AMY BOULDEN (Maesdu GC). Age 18. HOLLY CLYBURN (Woodhall Spa GC). Age 20. CHARLEY HULL (Woburn GC). Age 15. BRONTE LAW (Bramhall GC). Age 16. LEONA MAGUIRE (Slieve Russell GC). Age 17. LISA MAGUIRE (Slieve Russell GC). Age 17. BECKY HARRIES (Haverfordwest GC). Age 23. KELSEY MacDONALD (Nairn Dunbar GC). Age 21. PAMELA PRETSWELL (Bothwell Castle). Age 22. KELLY TIDY (Royal Birkdale GC). Age 19. STEPHANIE MEADOW (Royal Portrush GC). Age 20. LAUREN TAYLOR (Woburn GC). Age 17.

Amy Boulden, Holly Clybury, Kelsey MacDonald, Pamela Pretswell and Kelly Tidy comprised a GB&I team that beat Austraia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa to win the Astor Trophy in 2011.

Clyburn, Pretswell and Leona and Lisa Maguire all have Curtis Cup experience, taking part in the 2010 contest at Essex County Club in Massachusets.

Becky Harries is the 2011 Welsh Ladies' Amateur Champion, Charley Hull won the English and Welsh women's open stroke-play titles in 2011, and Lauren Taylor - the 16 year old from Woburn Golf Club - memorably won the Ladies British Open Amateur Championship in June and was subsequently named BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year for 2011.
