Historic day for 16-year-old at St Neots
Sixteen-year-old Connor Haynes has become the youngest player to win the Club and Junior Championships in the same season at St Neots Golf Club
Sixteen-year-old Connor Haynes has become the youngest player to win the Club and Junior Championships in the same season at St Neots Golf Club, Cambridgeshire's oldest golf club. Haynes won the Club Championship title after a two-round play-off with 21-year-old James Bradford.
Representing Cambridgeshire at numerous club and county under-16 and under-18 events, Haynes only started playing golf six years ago. He has been a junior member at St Neots Golf Club for five years, where director of golf, Paul Toyer has mentored him.
"It is a tremendous achievement by Connor to hold both the Club and Junior Championship at St Neots. It is a feat that has only been achieved by one other person over the club's 121-year history," said Toyer.
"Connor has a tremendous golf swing and the mentality to be very successful in the game. Despite only playing for six years he has already reduced his handicap to 3.6 and is certainly capable of getting lower and who knows, maybe he'll become a professional one day."
