Foursome to undertake 189-hole St Andrews challenge
An ambitious team of four golfers will raise money for charity this June by attempting to play 189 holes over St Andrews' 11 golf courses in one calendar day
An ambitious team of four golfers will raise money for charity this June by attempting to play 189 holes over St Andrews' 11 golf courses in one calendar day.
The quartet of Graeme Dawson, Gary Davidson, Ally Love and Angus Watson will cover more than 50 miles as they attempt to make a new Guinness World Record on June 20.
They will carry their own equipment and play every hole, as a four-ball, to the rules of golf.
Money raised from this unique challenge will be split between Cancer Research UK, the Scottish Disability Golf Partnership and HCPT: The Pilgramage Trust.
The challenge starts at 3.15am on Kingsbarns Golf Links and takes in Balgove, St. Andrews Old Course, The Eden, The Strathtyrum, The Dukes, Fairmont Torrance, Fairmont Kittocks, St Andrews Castle Course, St. Andrews Jubilee and St. Andrews New.
Three of the four participants completed 10 St Andrews courses in one day in 2007, but, since then, the Castle Course has opened.
"There aren't many places in the world that you can play so many different, quality golf courses within such a short distance," said Dawson.

"It took us around 19 hours to play 10 courses in 2007, so we're hoping we can squeeze another one in.
"When the Castle Course was built we knew we would need to do it again, and we're hugely grateful to the courses for giving us the opportunity to take on the challenge."
Love, who also took part in 2007, added: "We all know the courses well, having lived or studied in the town for a number of years, so hopefully we know how to keep out of trouble!
"We've had some fantastic support from everyone who has heard about the challenge so hopefully we can raise some great funds for our chosen charities."
