 FAQs

Can you use an iPhone as a golf rangefinder?

You can’t use an iPhone as a rangefinder per se as they lack the magnification and camera functionality that you’d find on a typical laser device. But you can still use an iPhone to get accurate distances to the hole if you download a GPS golf application to your device.

Can you use an Apple Watch as a GPS Golf Watch?

Yes, you can! All you need to do is ensure your data is activated on your Apple Watch and download a GPS golf application onto that device. That can then give you distances from anywhere you stand on the course to the hole, show you where various hazards are and even allow you to see where you played your last shot from.

What golf Apps are best to use on an iPhone?

There are a ton of golf apps available on the App Store that can be quickly downloaded to your device and used on the course. They can do everything from recording your score to providing you with yardage on the course. It’s wise to keep in mind some apps are subscription-based, while others require in-app purchases to fully operate. We’ve highlighted some of our favorites in our guide to the best Apple Watch golf apps guide. Some of those include:

  • Arccos Caddie App (opens in new tab): Course information on over 40,000 courses; automatic shot tracking; caddie advice; and strokes gained analytics.
  • VPAR App (opens in new tab): The go-to app for live scoring; GPS on over 30,000 courses; stat tracking; and challenges.
  • Hole19 Golf GPS App (opens in new tab): Shot analysis is taken to the next level with handicap calculators; accurate GPS shot tracking; and global leaderboards with 2.9m users.

Can an Apple Watch Series 7 be used for golf?

Absolutely! And, while it may be advisable to have a GPS golf app installed on your Watch, you don’t always need to have one to use an Apple Watch Series 7 on the course. If you’re looking to stay fit and healthy through golf, you can use the fitness functionality on the watch to help you monitor your heart rate and step count.

Can I use an iPad with a launch monitor?

You can use an iPad in tandem with a launch monitor to track everything from your ball speed to your swing shape. Many pro golfers pair their iPad up with some of the top portable launch monitors, as iPads are easy to carry and can display all the data analytics you might want to see easily and efficiently.

 Hints and Tips

  •  Tune in for Apple Black Friday Deals: Depending on what device you’re looking for, you’ll find plenty of deals on Apple devices throughout the Black Friday sales, particularly on mobile phones and Apple watches. It’s also good to keep an eye out for older generation products going on sale during this time too. For more news on Black Friday golf savings, head over to our Black Friday deals hub
  •  Trade in your old Apple Devices: Trading in an old Apple device can get up to $625 in trade-in value on a top-spec iPhone, or up to $155 in trade-in credit on a top-spec Apple Watch. Remember though, your device’s trade-in value will change depending on the condition of the product.
  • Take advantage of Apple’s upgrade programs: Particularly if you live in the United Kingdom, Apple users are eligible to partake in the iPhone upgrade program which can save you lots of money and keep you up-to-date with the latest iPhone releases.
  • Shop for refurbished Apple devices: Refurbished Apple devices are a great way to save money on buying a full-price model. You can find refurbed products on Apple’s website, or at authorized Apple resellers. It’s wise to be careful what you’re buying too and where from, as the quality of the refurbishment on a device can change from place to place.
  • Don’t always buy the latest Apple model: Similarly, it’s also wise not to fork out a ton of money on the latest Apple device on the market. More often than not, Apple doesn't add a whole ton of features between generations, with the iPhone 12, 13 and 14 being very similar models in shape, features and camera functionality. It’s wise to think about what you need from your device, and then look at whether you can get that from a slightly older model.
  •  Do your research on warranties: Take a look at what warranties different retailers are providing, as sometimes you can get a better warranty at a different shop.
  • Purchase AppleCare: While it is an extra cost on top of your Apple product, Apple Care is an important addition you need to consider purchasing, to ensure you’re fully protected if your product breaks. Apple offers some excellent repair services that Apple Care can provide for free when you need it.
  • Student, military, and first responder discounts: Always check if you are eligible for a discount at Apple. The brand offers some fantastic savings for those who work in the public sector, and students looking to kit themselves out for the new semester.
  •  Look out for package deals: More often than not, you’ll be able to find some retailers offering package deals where you can pay a reduced price for multiple Apple products. For example, I’ve seen packages online where you can purchase an iPhone but the retailer will throw in a pair of AirPods or an Apple Watch at a reduced price.

How to save on Apple products?

Apple is one of the best brands in the business when it comes to producing high-quality technology. The brand recently released its latest addition to the much revered iPhone line-up, the iPhone 14 along with its new iOS operating system that has updated the design of the brand’s software into a sleeker and more stylish OS. But as we’re coming up to Christmas, you may be thinking about that present you could buy for a loved one, or yourself. So, here are a couple of tips on what to look out for when buying a new Apple device.

Apple is one retailer that is quite strict on the discounts they offer on their products. You’ll rarely find a big sale at the Apple Store but there are ways to get around that. One of which is to shop at other retailers who sell apple products as they may often have deals available, particularly when it comes to iPhones. Another top tip is when shopping at Apple, consider the trade-in value of an old iPhone, iPad, MacBook or Apple Watch. The newer items, and ones in good condition, can fetch you a handy trade-in fee, which you can put towards your next purchase.

 Save more with our coupons

You can also use the coupons in this guide to save a ton of money, perhaps even more than that if you used a student discount, on your next Apple purchase. So be sure to check out the discounts above and figure out which one is right for you!

Look out for product bundles

You can often find Apple and other retailers selling products in bundles with accessories and cases included for a fraction of the price. One product we’ve been seeing a lot of recently is manufacturers selling iPhones with Apple Watches and AirPods for nearly half their RRP.

What are the best Apple products available to golfers right now?

The iPhone 14 isn’t the only game-changing Apple product out there you need to be aware of as a golfer, so here are three of its best products that golfers can purchase right now to help them improve their game.

Perhaps the most powerful iPad ever released, this is a stunning addition to the Apple range, which can be used on the course and off the golf course to track your golfing game. It also now doubles as a work machine that can help you send emails, sort out your online banking or even draw a masterpiece. It is a fantastic all-round tool that can do pretty much everything a computer can!

While I’ve already mentioned the iPhone 14, the iPhone 13, despite being a year old now, is still available for sale and is an excellent model to consider if you don’t want to pay full price for a new iPhone. Golfers should consider this model as you can use the phone’s fast CPU and GPS capabilities to track your golf game, while also using its 12-megapixel dual-camera system to take some awe-inspiring photos of your favorite course.

The Apple Watch Ultra is one of the biggest steps in technology Apple has taken in the wearable tech game. With users able to customize the watch strap to their style and track everything from their heart rate to their blood oxygen levels, there are a lot of features crammed into this device that can give insightful analytics about your health.
