The SkyCaddie SX400 is one of the products featured in our Editor's Choice product list.
SkyCaddie SX400
We loved Skycaddie’s SX500 handheld GPS that launched last year, and the more compact SX400 is equally impressive, boasting all the features of its bigger brother other than the 13-mega pixel camera and the 5-inch HD touchscreen (the SX400’s is an inch smaller). It retails for £80 less, though, and we feel that many golfers will happily sacrifice those extra features for such a significant saving.
Editor's Choice 2020
As you would expect from Skycaddie, it’s packed with all the things you could possibly want from a GPS and more. Among the most useful for us are the Pin Position feature that provides distances to the day’s pin positions while also giving you all the benefits of SkyCaddie’s detailed maps, and Dynamic HoleVue technology, which automatically gives you yardages to every hazard, carry and lay-up point, wherever you happen to find yourself on a hole.

IntelliPath Technology then gives you yardages to points along and beyond your target line, showing you the relevant carry and run-out distances so you can plot your way round as sensibly as possible.

Comprehensive coverage
That’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the features, which also allow you to keep scorecards and track your stats. But the sheer volume of courses that comes preloaded and ready to play is what really impresses with Skycaddie – over 35,000 courses, with features and distances all verified on the ground, not just by satellite.

Its more compact size is a plus for us compared to the SX500 too, and it’s designed to be easy to hold, water-resistant and easily attachable to either your golf bag or trolley.
It’s also reassuring to know that the battery life is over 20 hours, so if you forget to charge it or you’re on an intensive golf trip where the opportunities to do so are limited, you should find the SX400 can cope no problem.
