Golf Monthly Verdict

Puma produce world class footwear and have done for decades. These shoes won us over, not only with their sporty appearance but also the performance when it comes to grip. Seriously impressive traction and a design that wouldn’t look out of place on the start line of the New York Marathon.

If you’re a golfer who plays a lot of rounds, sometimes 2 in one day. Or perhaps your course is hilly and you do a ton of steps. These may well be the shoe for you.

The Puma Crush are the lightest golf shoes I’ve ever put on my feet and some of the most comfortable as well. I was a runner and when I laced these up I felt a little spark of nostalgia. They feel airy like a new pair of Nike shoes, yet grab my feet like I could go and lift weights. I think it’s very hard to get a balance of stability and breathability in a shoe but I think that Puma may well have done it.

The fit does come up a bit wide through the front part of the shoe and as such I’d think about sizing down to a 5 next time. But for those searching for wide golf shoes, these could be a model to consider.

The heel is a stunning fit and feels supportive as does the arch and laced area. There is a good amount of room in the toe area and as I swing I can feel my right foot moving about a bit at the top of my swing. Some might say this means I can use the ground and feel that weight transfer.

However the level of traction on the sole of these shoes is world class. About as good as I’ve experienced in spikeless golf shoes. The rubber on the sole is soft and this seems to add to the grab on the ground. They perform brilliantly and they’re waterproof which I’ve tested out, although it is worth acknowledging that if you want best-in-class traction, then we would always recommend a spiked model. Regardless I’m considering adopting these as my new trail running shoe, though think that the black version would be more suited to jogs through the New Forest. When you look at the price of a new pair of running shoes (upwards of $200) these will seem incredibly good value. I’d urge non golfers to look at these if they need some new sports shoes too, specifically the sturdy sole would be brilliant on a tennis court.
