Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson both missed the same cut for the first time at The Greenbrier Classic, just a fortnight before the Open begins at Royal Lytham

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will head to Royal Lytham & St Annes on the back of missed cuts at The Greenbrier Classic.

It is the first time in 197 mutual tournaments played as professionals that they have both bowed out after two rounds.

"I had my distance control dialled in last week and this week I was hitting the ball so far," Woods said.

Luckily for Woods, the altitude won't be such a problem at Royal Lytham in a fortnight's time.

"I really have been (off)," Mickelson said.

"I don't know what to say about that. It hasn't been great.

"The parts don't feel that far off, but I haven't been putting them together."
