The last Britain's Best Putter Regional Final of 2013 took place at Haggs Castle, where golfers from all over Scotland competed for a place in the Grand Final at the Belfry. Players were presented with blue skies and an immaculate putting green, which was particularly impressive considering the torrential rain the previous day. The contest included some of the best putting of the competition so far and the qualifiers will certainly be worth a watch when the final takes place in September.

There were only six shots separating the first and final seed going into the match play stages, with David Munn of Irvine Golf Club taking the top spot with an excellent 30 putts. There were three players on 36 putts who took part in a nearest the hole play off, with Stewart MacPherson winning the final spot in the match play with a fine putt that stopped on the lip. MacPherson continued that form into the match play rounds by knocking out number one seed Munn with a 2 and 1 victory.

After a number of very close match play contests the four qualifiers for the Belfry were found. Alan Stewart of Pumpherston secured his place after a great game with David Henderson, which finished on the 5th extra hole. The other three spots were secured by Martin Smith of Kings Acre, Fabian Greenan of Prewstwick St Nicholas and Alan Armstrong of Cardross. All four players will receive an Odyssey putter of their choice as well as winning the chance to become Britain's Best Putter 2013.

With the pressure of qualification removed, all four players relaxed and performed extremely well. Smith and Armstrong secured their places in the final and in the end it was Martin Smith who claimed the title of Scotland's Best Putter with a 1up victory. All four players will meet again in September at The Belfry where they will compete for the title of Britain's Best Putter 2013 and a holiday to LUMINE Mediterránea Beach & Golf Club in Southern Spain.
