Why you can trust Golf Monthly

New Level Golf has quietly carved a niche in the competitive golf equipment landscape, building a reputation for delivering high-quality, performance-driven clubs directly to the consumer. This approach often translates to exceptional value, and I have been testing the 702 CB irons to see if they continue that legacy.
As a PGA Professional, I'm always intrigued by brands that promise tour-level craftsmanship without the traditional tour-level price tag, so let’s see if the New Level 702 CB can muscle in on some of the best irons in the game…
New Level Golf 702 CB Irons Review: Looks
Pulling the 702 CB irons from the box, my immediate thought was "wow." These irons are a masterclass in players' aesthetics, exuding a seriously premium and sophisticated appeal. The exceptionally clean lines and satin finish are outstanding, but it's the shaping at address that really caught my attention.
The topline is beautifully thin and crisp, with minimal offset, creating a visual that just screams precision. In fact, the overall shaping of the playing position reminded me a lot of the sleek, confidence-inspiring profile of the Srixon ZXi7 irons – a truly high compliment for any player's cavity back. They frame the ball beautifully at address, inspiring a sense of control that I look for in an iron of this type, featuring an offset that I would describe as mid-level for a low-handicap iron.
New Level Golf 702 CB Irons Review: Feel & Sound
The feel at impact with the New Level 702 CB irons is exactly what you'd hope for from a beautifully forged cavity back, and may be derived from the addition of a tungsten toe weight, strategically placed to lower and balance CG placement. It's a sensation of solid purity, a soft yet responsive thud that resonates beautifully through the hands. There's no harshness or unwanted vibration, even on shots struck slightly away from the center; don’t get me wrong, there is feedback, but it isn’t unduly punishing to feel.
The sound perfectly complements this feel; it's a muted but authoritative confirmation of a well-struck shot without being dull in any way. This combination of refined feel and pleasing acoustics makes every pure strike incredibly satisfying and contributes significantly to the overall enjoyment of hitting these irons.
New Level Golf 702 CB Irons Review: Performance
In terms of raw numbers, the 702 CB Forged irons aren't chasing extreme distance; they are relatively conservatively lofted, with the 7-iron coming in at 33˚. What they deliver, however, is something far more valuable for the discerning player: predictability.
In my testing, the ball flights were exceptionally stable and supremely consistent in terms of spin and yardage, exactly what I would look for from an iron of this type.
The spin rates were well-optimized, providing ample stopping power on the greens, which is crucial for attacking pins, and the consistent, predictable flight gives you genuine confidence, knowing precisely how far the ball will carry and how it will react upon landing. Forgiveness, for a player's cavity back, was also impressive, with off-center strikes maintaining good ball speed and a tight dispersion, ensuring that slight misses still wound up relatively close to their targets.
The neatly ground and crafted sole needs a mention too, as the softly bevelled leading edge contributes to a brilliantly versatile turf interaction. On the linksy turf of Saunton Golf Club, where I tested them out with my Foresight Sports GC3 launch monitor, it cut through the ground with the ease and slipperiness so often present on some of the best blade irons.
For those who are looking longingly at the 702 CB but feeling like they are not adept enough ball strikers to use them, I would implore you to check out the 702+ irons on the New Level website. It is essentially just a supersized version of the 702 CB in terms of blade length, top line and offset, and is also a truly excellent option for those looking for a touch more forgiveness.
New Level Golf 702 CB Irons Review: Customisation
Beyond the exceptional on-course performance, New Level shines in its commitment to customization and overall value. I absolutely love the number of custom options available throughout its iron range. You can choose from a wide array of shafts and grips to perfectly match your swing profile and what's more, the option of selecting custom ferrules adds a fantastic bespoke touch, allowing you to truly personalize your set.
This level of tailoring, combined with a 4-PW set price of $1043/£805, represents real value for a product with such high build quality and refined performance. It's rare to find this combination of premium aesthetics, forged feel, consistent performance, and extensive customization at such a (relatively) accessible price point.
