VXF hybrid & iron set
Golf Monthly Senior Staff Writer Paul O'Hagan tests the Yonex VXF hybrid & irons set

GM verdict: Yonex has traditionally performed well in this area of the market, and the VXF set continues that trend. The hybrids, in particular, were very easy to control and cut through the turf surprisingly well. The graphite shafts in the irons also perform impressively, producing a consistently high flight, while the superb distance on offer makes this set a must-try for those seeking a few extra yards. But... the graphics and cavity design don?t have the eye-catching appeal of some of the other sets in this category. PGA pro verdict: This combination set performed superbly, offering both distance and feel. The 4 hybrid, in particular, was a joy to use and flew further than I?d anticipated. It had the illusion of a club that was much more lofted, so I was surprised with the distance it produced. The irons gave a slightly crisper tone at impact, while the yardage was consistent throughout the range. Test Team Rating: Performance: 4/5 Visual appeal: 3/5 Innovation: 4/5 Value: 4/5 Overall: 5/5

Key technology:
The VXF irons feature a double undercut cavity, with the second cavity designed to increase power off the face and enlarge the size of the sweet spot. An elastomer backing on the face also removes unwanted vibrations and improves feel. The VXF hybrid is designed to blend into the iron set to produce consistent distance gapping through the set.
Will suit: Players looking for vastly improved consistency.
