What Is The International Series?

The LIV Golf-backed, elevated series on the Asian Tour resumes next week - but what is it and how does it work?

The International Series has been a huge addition to the Asian Tour in recent years and has opened a pathway for the circuit's top players to earn a golden ticket to the lucrative LIV Golf League.

Introduced in 2022, The International Series is a set of elevated events on the Asian Tour calendar backed by LIV Golf in a landmark US$300m strategic partnership.

Along with featuring LIV Golf players in the field, where they can earn crucial Official World Golf Ranking points, The International Series tournaments help to develop Asian Tour talent who get the opportunity and experience of competing against the best for huge prize funds.

Some of the game's biggest stars have come through the Asian Tour at some point in time, including the likes of Cameron Smith and Tom Kim in recent years, and The International Series is certainly another way to develop the best up-and-coming players from the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

Joaquin Niemann is one of the sport's top players right now with seven LIV Golf wins in the last two seasons, and he defeated a host of LIV Golf’s biggest names in Riyadh last December at the PIF Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers to clinch The International Series Rankings at the last gasp.

He followed on from 2023 International Series Rankings winner Andy Ogletree, the former US Amateur champion, who earned his LIV Golf spot and went on to join Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers GC.

This year’s International Series has been reduced to nine tournaments due to the inaugural International Series Cambodia no longer taking place as planned in light of recent developments in the region.

This means that five showpiece events now remain on the 2025 International Series schedule for someone to secure their LIV Golf spot.

We’re four tournaments down so far this season, with Ollie Schniederjans winning his first pro title in nine years at the inaugural International Series India presented by DLF to start the year and Torque GC's Carlos Ortiz triumphing at the International Series Macau presented by Wynn to earn one of three spots in The Open.

Ripper GC's Lucas Herbert then came out on top in the inaugural International Series Japan presented by Moutai, with Scott Vincent, the 2022 Rankings champion and former Iron Heads GC player sealing the second International Series trophy of his career in Morocco.

Herbert leads the rankings through the first four events but he will have tough competition over the coming months to hang on to the top spot, with an exciting and packed schedule leading up to the finale once again in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The Jakarta International Championship gets the series back up-and-running at Damai Indah Golf in early October after the summer break before another inaugural event, the International Series Philippines presented by BingoPlus, later in the month.

Two historic national Opens follow, with the iconic Link Hong Kong Open getting underway at the end of October where the champion will earn their way into both The Masters and The Open. The series then heads straight to Singapore for the Moutai Singapore Open the following week.

Multiple LIV Golf players are confirmed for the finishing stretch to the 2025 International Series schedule as well as most of the Asian Tour's best talent who are all chasing down the top spot.

The International Series will crown its Rankings champion at Riyadh Golf Club from 19-22 November, where a huge field will contest for the PIF Saudi International presented by SoftBank Investments Advisors title and the lion’s share of the $5m purse - the biggest of the season on the Asian Tour.
