Johnson wins in Milwaukee

While all eyes were on Birkdale, Sweden s Richard S. Johnson was in Milwaukee claiming his first PGA Tour victory - with a superb final round of 64 on Sunday enough to win the U.S. Bank Championship by a single shot.

Johnson started the final round at ten-under, a shot back from Gavin Coles and Nick Flanagan, but the Australian pair could only manage level-par rounds of 70 to finish in a tie for eleventh place.

An opening round of 63, including a hole-in-one at the par-three fourteenth, set Johnson on his way, and he closed out victory with birdies on his last two holes on Sunday.

American Ken Duke finished in second on 15-under after a 65, while compatriots Dean Wilson, Chad Campbell and Chris Riley all finished a further two shots behind. Kenny Perry, heavily criticised for his decision not to travel to The Open, fired a closing 64 to finish in sixth place at 12-under.

Johnson is the sixth Swedish golfer to win on the PGA Tour, and this victory will come as a huge relief to the qualifying-school graduate who had only made three cuts from ten starts prior to this event.

It all started on that first day. I made that hole-in-one, and all of a sudden I felt like I could make some birdies, said Johnson.

[On 18] I hit a three wood just straight at the pin and it rolled up to 20 feet and I two-putted for birdie.
