A guide to hole 15 at Whistling Straits, called Grand Strand.
Whistling Straits hole by hole: hole 15 - Grand Strand / 518 yards / Par 4
This hole is a brute the entire way. There is no bail out option from the tee, only utter commitment to what shot you want to play will ensure a clear shot to the green. It is paramount to find the short stuff from the tee as you will need all the control you can find when playing into this green with a long iron or fairway wood. The challenge does not let up once you get up and around the green, guarded by bunkers and very sloping, this green will give even the best players a headache. A four here in any circumstances will be a job well done.
It seemed only a matter of time until Rory McIlroy would win a major after he finished one shot off Martin Kaymer and Bubba Watson at the 2010 USPGA Championship. However, it was the par 4 15th where his hopes of making the play-off fell away. After making two birdies on the back nine, his bogey on Grand Strand ensured he moved back to level par and finished just shy of his first major.
