Travelers Championship preview
This weeks PGA Tour event includes a strong European contingent after many have remained in the States after the US Open. They have the added attraction of the tournaments biggest ever purse.
Tournament: Travelers Championship
Course: TPC River Highlands
Prize fund: $6,000,000
Course details: par 70, 6,982 yards. The course is regarded as challenging, yet fair. Holes 15 to 17 are known as The Golden Triangle, they play around a four-acre pond and offer a range of risk reward shots options.
Key hole: The 444-yard par-4 18th plays into a spectacular green that is framed by a glass amphitheatre.
The lowdown: A field without Phil Mickelson visits TPC River Highlands this week after the American withdrew late with his wrist injury. However other big names including Darren Clarke, Padraig Harrington and Justin Rose from the European Tour are bidding to take home the biggest purse this tournament has ever seen. Defending Champion J J Henry (pictured) is in the field. Last years victory was his first on the PGA Tour.
The contenders: Vijay Singh, Stewart Cink and Zach Johnson.
