Pavin makes no guarantees for Woods at Ryder Cup
Corey Pavin is adamant Tiger Woods will not be an automatic pick for the US Ryder Cup team
Corey Pavin is adamant Tiger Woods will not be an automatic pick for the US Ryder Cup team.
Only the top eight standings in the PGA Tour are guaranteed to play in the biennial match, with four of the captain's picks also making up the team.
With Woods taking time away from the game due to a neck injury, an automatic qualification is not definite - meaning he may have to be picked to play.
"I'm not going to treat Tiger any differently than any other player," Pavin said. "I'd love to have him on the team but I want him to be playing well."
The world number one is currently in 11th place in the US points list, having played only three tournaments since returning to the game following scandals about his private life coming into view.
The Ryder Cup match will be played in October at Celtic Manor, and, despite Pavin's insistence, it still seems likely that Tiger will be one of the captain's picks should he not break into the top eight.
