Carnoustie in Angus, Scotland hosts the 2016 Senior Open Championship where some of the game's legends will descend onto the famous links
Carnoustie Ready for 2016 Senior Open Championship
The 2016 Senior Open is less than three weeks away and, as always, its star-studded line up promises an entertaining week.
Having recently turned 50, John Daly will be making his highly anticipated Senior Open debut at the links this July, alongside fellow Senior Open rookie, Jean Van de Velde.
It has been 17 years since the Frenchman rolled up his trousers and waded into the Barry Burn during The Open for one of the most dramatic meltdowns not just in golf but in sport, and this year he’s aiming to set the record straight.
Colin Montgomerie is also in the field as he seeks his fourth Senior Major Championship.
Bernhard Langer and Tom Watson will be returning to the course, each hoping to add the title of 2016 Senior Open Champion to their list of historic wins at Carnoustie.
Langer won the Senior Open back in 2010 when it was first held at Carnoustie Golf Links and will be hoping to repeat his success this year.
Watson, who has won five Open Championships, won his first major at the 1975 Open at Carnoustie. He's also tied with Jack Nicklaus on three Senior Open titles.
“With a star-studded line-up of golfing royalty, the 2016 Senior Open Championship promises to be full of drama and suspense,” commented Graeme Duncan, General Manager of the Carnoustie Golf Links Management Committee.
“Carnoustie is renowned as one of the toughest courses in the world, and the course always provides a crucible for exciting finishes down the final stretch. It’s a unique opportunity for spectators to see some first-rate golf and get close to some of the greatest players the golfing world has known,” continued Graeme.
The Senior Open Championship will be held at Carnoustie Golf Links from the 21st-24th July, for event information and to purchase tickets, visit www.senioropenchampionship.com
