After much speculation, the LIV Golf League's CEO, Scott O'Neil, has confirmed that investors have come on board to help save the circuit's future.

In a statement from O'Neil, it read: "LIV Golf has an agreement in place with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the Board, to anchor the transaction and play a key role in supporting the path forward for the League’s next era, driven by and for the players.

"We’re also seeing strong interest from more than a dozen additional parties to potentially serve as minority investors, creating a multi-partner model built for long-term stability and growth.

"Notably, our next chapter will make our players the majority equity holders in LIV Golf, a first for a major global sports league, and gives the League the foundation to keep growing the game worldwide.

"We anticipate finalizing terms in the coming weeks, with the goal of entering a transaction in September. In the meantime, our focus is on delivering a great week for fans and players at Bedminster and finishing the 2026 season strong.’"

The announcement comes just a day after O'Neil held a meeting with LIV players, which was followed by a players-only meeting led by two-time US Open winner Bryson DeChambeau.

As of writing, the investors aren't publicly known, with the reported figure sitting between $250 and $300 million.

It has also been reported that, for 2027, the League will move to 10 events, with five taking place in the US and five worldwide. This would be four fewer than the 14 in the schedule for this year.

It's still not confirmed as to whether the Michigan Team Championship will go ahead in 2026, though, with no update provided during the meeting.

It's not just tournament purses, though, as reports on X from Monday Q Info and Flushing It Golf suggest Jon Rahm is allegedly still owed "as much as $150m" from his LIV contract.

The Spaniard, who joined LIV Golf for a huge nine-figure sum back at the start of 2024, signed a contract that was reportedly 'back loaded', meaning he could miss out on some of the money he signed for if the circuit were to go bust.

Rahm has been coy on his LIV future in recent weeks. When asked if he will still be a LIV player next year, he said at JCB last week: "I'm not going to share anything that I can't share with you guys right now."
