Welsh golf stars named for European team championships

The Welsh men’s, women’s, boys’ and girls’ teams have been selected for the European Amateur Team Championships in July which will see twenty leading golfing nations compete in what promises to be four mouth-watering competitions

The Men s Championships held in Turin, Italy, from the 1-5 July, includes Ben Westgate who won the Trubshaw Cup this year and finished 5th at the St Andrews Links Trophy last week along with Zac Gould who was runner up to Westgate at the Trubshaw. Also making up the team are Nigel Edwards, winner of Duncan Putter this year, Craig Evans who won the International Team event with Edwards at the South African Amateur in Durban as well as the Enoch brothers from Truro.

Rhys Enoch has followed in the footsteps of fellow Welsh player Rhys Davies by taking up a golf scholarship at East Tennessee State University and helped them reach the NCAA finals recently. His brother, Ben, won the Clwyd Open this year and took third place in the Duncan Putter.

Other individuals to look out for includes Kirsty O'Connor who will be making her International debut after winning the Welsh Ladies Close Championship at Monmouthshire last month, Stephanie Evans, runner up to O Connor at the Welsh Close and Hannah Jenkins who took sixth place at the European Nations Cup.
