EGU named official partner of Challenge Tour

The English Golf Union has been named as the Official Partner of the English Challenge on the European Challenge Tour, as the governing body continues to passionately support amateur golf.
The opening €150,000 event from July 22-25, being played at Stoke by Nayland Golf Hotel and Spa in Colchester, is expected to get off to a flier. Three young English golfers to keep your eye on are Luke Goddard, Matt Haines and Dale Whitnell. Most noticeably, Goddard earned a top 30 finish at the Estoril Open de Portugal and Haines, even though turning professional last month, earned €40,043. At the age of 20, Haines also finished in a tie for fifth place at the Scottish Hydro Challenge Tour earlier this month.
The EGU has helped different people in the past - one of these was Lee Westwood at the Race to Dubai, and the world number three has revealed on numerous occasions that he is a keen supporter of the organisation.
John Petrie, chief executive of the EGU, is very pleased to be partnering with the European Challenge Tour, saying: "The Challenge Tour provides an important opportunity for top amateurs as they turn professional by enabling them to play on a highly-competitive professional Tour."
Alain de Soultrait, the director of the European Tour, was also overjoyed, commenting: "We are absolutely delighted the English Golf Union will be involved in the English Challenge, which is a clear and strong signal of the importance of the event."
