Hunter Mahan shot a final round of 65 on his way to winning his first PGA Tour event, the Travelers Championship. The 25-year-old American then birdied the first play-off hole to defeat Jay Williamson, who had lead by one going into the final round.
Mahan trailed fellow American Williamson by one after bogeys on 16 and 17 but made birdie at the last to force sudden death. Williamson had a chance to win on the last but missed his birdie putt.
In the play-off Mahan again birdied the 18th, hitting a great approach shot and holing the two-foot putt. Mahan finished second in the event last year behind J J Henry but has struggled this year with only one previous top-10 finish.
Justin Rose finished tied for ninth after a final round of two-under 68.
