Alex Narey: What I’ve learnt…

Alex Narey is avoiding the Ailsa Course for the time being to avoid getting too wet, but wastes no time in letting you in on some interesting facts on what he's learnt so far at the Open Championship.

Boo Weekley at the Open Championship

It’s too wet for golf, so here’s a few snippets of info for you all to digest…

I have learnt that… Boo Weekley has left his fishing gear at home this week. He was also going to go and see a castle yesterday with his wife.

I have learnt that… If he could win only one Major, Sergio Garcia would want to win the Open, preferably at St Andrews.

I have learnt that… The marshals at Turnberry are very helpful. Refreshing, since you give someone a badge and it can sometimes give them the licence to start acting like Basil Fawlty. I have learnt that… The old boys still know how to play this game following former Open winners Tom Watson, Mark Calcavecchia and Mark O’Meara all toying with the first-round leaderboard.

I have learnt that… At home I eat a lot of burgers, Away from home, I eat even more…

I have learnt that… John Daly has de-lofted his hybrid from 14 degrees to 12.

I have learnt that… Playing with Ryo Isikawa gave Lee Westwood a chance to “practise his Japanese’.

I have learnt that… Ross Fisher plans to fly from Prestwick Airport to Farnborough should his wife suddenly go into labour, where he will be picked up by his dad. I make that about a two-hour round trip…

I have learnt that… When five blokes are all sharing the same accommodation, and five blokes all go out for a curry, one toilet simply does not suffice.

I have learnt that… JB Holmes takes far, far too long with his pre-shot routine, but the lad is playing well…

I have learnt that… Sandy Lyle really needs to put a sock in it now.
