Selection date for Solheim Cup squad
It has been revealed that European Solheim Cup captain Helen Alfredsson will name her team on August 21st for September's match against the USA in Sweden.
The Ladies European Tour has announced that the final ranking tournament for Solheim Cup points will be the Wales Ladies Championship of Europe, which runs from August 16th-19th. This means that European captain Helen Alfredsson will reveal her final line up, including wild card selections, on Tuesday August 21st.
Alfredsson's final twelve players for the biennial match with the USA will comprise the top four players in the world rankings, the top five players in the points standings and three wild card choices, after the qualification rules were revised in 2006.
Alfredsson will be hoping that home advantage in her native Sweden can provide a platform for victory for her team. Europe won the event in Sweden four years ago but are looking to bouce back from a 15.5-12.5 defeat at Crooked Stick in the USA back in 2005.
This year's renewal takes place at the Halmstad Golf Club from September 14th-16th. It will be the tenth meeting between the two sides since the event was launched in 1990. The USA lead Europe 6-3 in the matches played so far but have only triumphed once on European soil - in 1996 at San Pierre in Wales.
