Byrd wins John Deere Classic
Johnathan Byrd overtook leader Tim Clarke late on to win the John Deere Classic and take the final qualifying place in the Open.
An impressive finish gave American Jonathan Byrd the John Deere Classic, the third PGA Tour title of his career, and booked him a place at the Open next week.
South African Tim Clark led the event for much of the final round but dropped shots at 15 and 17. Byrd responded in fine style with birdies at 14, 16 and 17 to post a round of 66 and finish one ahead of Clark.
Before this week Byrd had missed four cuts in a row but completed an excellent weekend after shooting 65 on Saturday and 66 on Sunday.
Australian Nathan Green had held the lead going into the final round but shot a disappointing 71 to finish tied for third.
