The 154th was an historic one as Ryan Fox birdied the 72nd hole for a sensational victory in front of huge galleries at Royal Birkdale.

The iconic Southport links was firm and fast as it hosted golf's oldest Major, and it delivered with a thrilling final round.

Fox birdied four of the last six holes to deny Cameron Young by a single stroke, who earlier carded a six-under-par 64 to look set for at least a playoff.

But it was the New Zealander who became the fourth Major winner from his country to cap off the men's Major season.

Birkdale hosted its 11th Open, and all eyes now move to St Andrews in 2027 for the Major's 155th staging.
