Asian Tour Qualifying School: Day Two round-up
It was all smiles for Englishman John Parry on day two at the Asian Tour Q School – he found himself tied for the lead
Among the five Europeans to miss the two-round cut were Matthew King and James Hepworth who missed by one and four shots respectively.
The remaining 120 golfers will now play another three rounds and try to secure a place in the crucial top 40 which will be good for a 2009 Asian Tour Card.
And is it worth it? Well, a player with John Parry’s ranking would never have a chance of a European Tour event, but with two co-sanctioned tournaments in Malayasia and Indonesia coming up next month, an Asian Tour Card gives him a spot in both events and could kick start his career.
Seventeen of the 22 Europeans are still in the hunt and I’ll have details of them from every day of the event.
The 17 Europeans still playing in Thailand are (name + position after two rounds): John Parry (1st), Ally Mellor (14th), Chris Roake & Ross Bain (19th), Emanuele Canonica & Paul Grannell (26th), Toni Karjalinen & Joones Granberg (39th), Steven Tiley & Lars Johansson (50th), Simon Dunn & Steve Parry (66th), Andrew Marshall, Craig Smith & Yasin Ali (80th), Pasi Purhonen & Fredrik Ohlsson (108th).
Missed cut: Eddie Barr, James Hepworth, Peter Gustafsson, Matthew King and Peter Erofejeff.
