Strong winds on the final day of the Sony Open resulted in a hard-fought victory for K.J Choi in Hawaii.
For the first time in the 41-year history of the event the winner finished with a final round over par. This highlighted the difficulty of the conditions as the Korean?s round of 71 was good enough for a three-shot win.
Runner-up Rory Sabbatini and third place Jerry Kelly were the only men in the top-10 to break par on Sunday. Only eight men in the entire field were able to shoot in the 60?s.
Choi went into the final round with a four shot lead but he three-putted the 13th for bogey which reduced his lead to two shots. However he finished the round with four pars and a birdie to take his seventh PGA Tour title.
"This experience in Hawaii is going to help me prepare for the major tournaments that are coming up because in those tournaments you have to be patient. You can't get too greedy," said Choi.
