Ellis Keenan accepts USA university offer

Surrey teenager Ellis Keenan will be heading for the USA next August when she joins the University of Nevada in Las Vegas.
She’s just back from a visit to the campus where she accepted an offer of a place from golf coach Missy Ringler. The university was Ellis’s first choice and the only one she visited.
“I’m definitely looking forward to it – to the better weather and the facilities and to continuing my education,” said Ellis, 18, who plays at Sunningdale. Her brother, Farren, spent four years at the University of Texas and is now an England squad member.
Ellis has just been selected for the English Women’s Golf Association Select South East Squad after a string of impressive performances in 2008.
During the year she cut her handicap from four to scratch and won the Hampshire Rose – with a six under 67 in the second round; the South East ladies’ championship; the Surrey girls’ championship; and the Bridget Jackson Bowl.
Now she’s looking forward to building on those successes before she takes up her place at college.
