Luke Donald qualifies for US Open

The former world No. 1 sealed his place in Florida yesterday.

US Open qualification took place yesterday, with big names both making it and missing out.

Qualification for the US Open took place yesterday, with Luke Donald among those earning his spot at Chambers Bay next week.

Donald is currently at 66 in the world rankings and finished T18  in his most recent outing at the Irish Open.

Former champion Lee Janzen also qualified, 17 years after he won the tournament. The 50-year-old, who also won in 1993, hasn't played the US Open since 2008.

Hammer shot 64 in his first round, but won't be the youngest ever player in the field, as Andy Zhang was 14 when he played in 2012.

Stricker has been an ever-present at the US Open since 2005, but he couldn't get over the line in Columbus, Ohio.

During the course of the day ten amateurs qualified, including England's Sam Horsfield, who will now miss the Amateur Championship in Scotland next week.
