Conditions allowed for good scoring during round three of the 2011 US Open, where Rory McIlroy quickly became the first man ever to reach 14-under-par at a US Open.
Rory McIlroy began the final day eight shots clear of Y.E. Yang and that's where he finished it, with Australian Jason Day moving into second place.
During his first major win, Rory McIlroy accomplished the rare feat of shooting all four rounds under par in a US Open, which had only occurred four times previously in the event's history.
McIlroy also had the additional distinction of setting the US Open 72-hole low marks for total shots and shots under par, at 268 and −16, respectively.

Chasing his second major in 2012's US PGA, Rory McIlroy shot a third round 67 to move three shots clear of Vijay Singh at Kiawah Island.
A closing bogey-free 66 (–6) saw Rory McIlroy need only 24 putts for the round, winning the championship by a record eight strokes, capped with a 20-foot birdie on the final hole.
Rory McIlroy's win on the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island saw him become the sixth-youngest winner of two majors at just 23 years and 3 months.
After two major-less years, Rory McIlroy arrived at Royal Liverpool in fine form and opened up a six shot lead ahead of the final round, where he was looking to complete the third leg of his career Grand Slam.
Despite a strong charge by Sergio Garcia, Rory McIlroy could afford to par the par 5 18th in front of a packed grandstand at Royal Liverpool to win the 143rd Open Championship.
