The FootJoy winter boot is a striking navy blue, very unlike the usual offerings of winter boots except when you venture across to the Italian side of Duca Del Cosma. I love the rather bolder look of FootJoy’s winter offering and will be donning these at every given opportunity.

The almost mathematical design of the upper membrane is really sporty and reminds me of high-end hiking boots you’d wear for taking on the highest of peaks in the bleakest of conditions whilst still looking snazzy.

The lacing system needs attention to loosen enough for your foot to actually get in, as with any of the best golf boots, but once on they feel like an extension of your foot. The laces are sponge-like and comfortable to handle and they are so easy to do up, plus they stay done up!

This boot is really stable, as well as waterproof, yet it feels like a summer trail shoe. The material is airy and my feet are supported as much as they need to be without the main body of the shoe feeling too stiff.

Many golf boots can feel heavy as you walk making for tired legs at the end of the round. The comfort levels in these are no different to some of the best women’s golf shoes.

They are definitely less weighty than previous models and certainly have an edge over the Adidas S2G Rain.RDY winter shoe. Each boot weighs only 350g, that is only 50g more than a FootJoy Quantum golf shoe.

Lightweight is key, but in a golf boot I do like to feel it is supporting my foot and ankle in what can be slippery winter conditions. The sole is sturdy with SoftSpikes Pulsar which can be replaced for even greater traction with the Tour Flex Pro spike.

Being able to replace these spikes definitely lengthens the boots’ lifespan. The traction I gain from these is second to none and I won’t play winter golf without spikes on the soles of my feet.

Cushioning in both the sole and ankle lining with plush thermal insulation adds to their comfort. The material is lightweight yet insulated so keeping you cosy around the ankle and offering an almost slipper-esque feel. The bounce you experience when wearing these is thanks to the high-density molded EVA FitBed delivering great support.

These boots were even comfortable in unexpected higher temperatures on a fairly sunny winter day when I first tested them. I worried I’d get too warm and sticky in the soles of my feet but the Thinsulate material managed to regulate and maintain optimum temperature.

Something Footjoy boots have always managed to do is keep my feet warm in minus conditions. These boots don’t boast the furry lining of models gone by in the Footjoy range, but I feel the modern materials and smarter Thinsulate technology will more than exceed my expectations once temperatures dip below zero.

The performance in wet conditions is fantastic, though on first glance you’d question how waterproof these are. They look more breathable than waterproof, but mark my words, I’ve tested a few fairly deep puddles and remained bone dry in the sock department. With a 1-year warranty you can push these to the brink and still keep your toes warm and dry for the entire round.

Available in a slightly disappointing range of sizes from 5-8. I would have loved to have seen a wider range of sizing. Those with dinky feet (and juniors) will miss out, that's for sure. They only offer wide as an option, though my narrow feet found my usual size in FJ (5.5) were perfect. I’d recommend trying these on in your usual size and one half size up, especially if you prefer a thicker sock.

These are a striking golf boot that will have heads turning and keep your feet cosy and dry whether you’re playing in frost or rain. A great addition to any winter wardrobe.
