Gabby Logan took top honours at the second Leuka Mini Masters, hosted by actor Dougray Scott. The event, which cheekily bills itself as ‘Golf’s 5th major meets the summer’s best garden party’, took place at Dukes Meadows in Chiswick, and raised funds for the leukaemia charity based at London’s Hammersmith Hospital.
Featuring golf played to music, free bars every few holes, and a big screen beaming action from the course, the Leuka Mini Masters was held on the Friday of Open week and provided a light-hearted antidote to the more serious action taking place at Turnberry.
Stars of film, TV and sport, including James Nesbitt, Rob Brydon, Philip Glenister, Vernon Kay, Les Ferdinand and Pro-Celebrity himself, Jimmy Tarbuck, locked horns on the immaculately-presented par-3 course, but it was Logan, the presenter of BBC’s Inside Sport, who donned the winner’s Gold Jacket after amassing an impressive 43 Stapleford points over 18 holes.
Ashes to Ashes star Phil Glenister won an Omega watch for finishing nearest the pin on the 9th, a hole that saw competitors teeing off a specially constructed lunar platform and where European Senior Tour pro Roger Chapman was on hand to offer advice.
After the final putt had been sunk, guests tucked into a gourmet barbeque from acclaimed Kiwi chef Peter Gordon, and enjoyed Veuve Clicquot champagne, Steinlager and cocktails made from Auchentoshan single malt whisky. The post-tournament entertainment came courtesy of Rob Brydon and James Walsh of Starsailor. For more, see leukaminimasters.com.
