St Andrews hole-by-hole guide: Hole 5, Hole O'Cross (Out)
A detailed hole-by-hole guide to St Andrews Old Course, home of the 150th Open Championship. Get to know the course and find out where this year's Claret Jug may be won and lost this year
Hole 5, Hole O'Cross (Out) 568 yards Par 5
The first of the Par 5s and a real birdie chance with the prevailing wind blowing off the right and slightly down the wind. The line off the tee is to aim just left of the clutch of seven bunkers on the right between 270 and 320 yards. Finding the centre of the fairway will leave a long iron into a green that measures 101 yards from front to back, thus making distance control on second shots crucial. It will not be unusual to see players putting from 60 to 70 yards.
