Golf: North Wales

A region of panorama and natural splendour, North Wales also boasts some of the country's finest golf courses. Home to a number of the UK's most respected links such as Conwy and Nefyn, to parkland gems such as Holyhead, there are a host of tracks here that simply must feature on your golfing itinerary

A region of panorama and natural splendour, North Wales is characterised by the stunning Snowdonia mountain ranges and the dramatic sweep of the Llyn Peninsula.

Amongst the surreal surroundings, the region incompasses no less than 50 courses and, in particular, a host of well-respected championship parkland and links tracks.

One of the most memorable of links experiences can be enjoyed at the Nefyn and District Golf Club. The James Braid and JH Taylor-design posseses a marvelous final eight holes, named 'The Point', where a narrow peninsula with sea on one side and sandy beaches on the other challenge the nerve of any golfer. The welcoming Ty Coch Inn, situated below the 16th fairway offers golfers some Dutch courage for the remaining holes.

Further up the map, onto the North coast, is the prestigious Conwy Golf Club, which, for over a century has been viewed as one of Wales' top links courses. Measuring almost 7000 yards from the championship tees, Conwy, in 2006, was the first club to host an Open Championship qualifying event. The par-3 13th will take some beating, with the backdrop of Conwy Mountain providing the most stupendous of settings.

Nearer the English border you'll find the superb parkland track of Vale of Llangollen. Towering hillsides surmount this equally impressive championship course - one of a few Welsh venues to hold an HSBC Gold Medal ranking. The River Dee, which runs along numerous holes, presents visitors with the fantastic option of a combined fishing and golfing break.
