Six Essex schools have been invited to a Festival of Golf at TopGolf, Chigwell on Friday May 28, which will see almost 120 students aged six to 10 partaking in a TriGolf scheme backed by the Government's School Sports Partnership.
TriGolf is played with plastic clubs and balls, encouraging children to learn how to control distance, and master the technique of chipping, as well as developing hand-to-eye coordination. With a target golf range operator, and hi-tech golf balls that enclose microchips - measuring accuracy and distance when hit into the target areas - TopGolf is slightly more advanced.
TopGolf deputy general manager, Conrad Simon, said: "The Festival will improve TopGolf's links with schools, and give the youngsters a basic feel for the game of golf."
The nationwide School Sports Partnership is an education and training combination, which increases the range of opportunities for young people to participate in P.E. and school sport.
Julia Gardiner, the partnership development manager of the Davenant Foundation School, said: "By hosting events such as the Festival of Golf, young people are able to experience competition against other schools and use TopGolf's fantastic facilities."
The six schools involved in the festival are Loughton's fivesome of Hereward Primary, St John Fisher, Whitebridge Junior, Willingale Primary, Alderton Junior and, finally, Burkhurst Hill's primary school.
TopGolf has centres in Watford, Chigwell, Essex and Addlestone, Surrey. For more information please visit topgolf.com
