PGA champion Khan fails with US Open bid

Simon Khan has missed out on a US Open spot just a day after his PGA Championship heroics at Wentworth, by missing out in qualifying at Walton Heath.

The new BMW PGA champion went into qualifying in high spirits after claiming the European Tour's flagship event, only to miss out on June's second Major after some play-off heartbreak.

Fellow Englishman James Morrison emerged victorious with rounds of 68 and 65 to finish two clear of Argentina's Rafa Echenique and book his place at Pebble Beach."Unbelievable - I thought one of them would miss," said Khan, who missed his putt from 15 feet, about the same distance from where he holed a critical putt a day before on Wentworth's 18th that set up victory.

Spaniard Pablo Martin and Finn Mikko Ilonen both made birdies in the first play-off group. Then, Swede Rikard Karlberg made a 25-footer before French pair Gregory Havret and Jean-Francois Lucquin holed from 15 and 14 feet respectively.
