McLachlin Earns USPGA Spot
The virtually unknown Parker McLachlin came from nowhere to claim one of the last available spots at the USPGA.
Hawaii s Parker McLachlin will make his debut at the USPGA Championship after his maiden PGA Tour win at the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open last week.
It will be the 29-year-old s first Major Championship appearance since he qualified for the 2004 US Open at Shinnecock Hills, where he missed the halfway cut.
McLachlin - in only his second season on Tour - took full advantage of a slightly weak field, with the top 50 gofers in the world all busy battling it out at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational.
This is a huge stepping stone for me, said McLachlin, who sauntered to victory by seven strokes, despite a final round of 74. It feels like it has been a long time coming.
The 2006 Qualifying School graduate can now look forward to pegging it up at Oakland Hills with the world s best, and with the USPGA Championship s history of throwing up surprise winners, he will have his sights firmly set on the Wanamaker Trophy.
