A golfing jolly to Ireland will probably take you to some of the best establishes courses in the world. But there's a new kid on the block well worth a look.
Only opened for play as an 18-hole layout in 1993, Carne Golf Links looks as though it has been part of the landscape for a century or more. Towering sand dunes are a feature of many holes, and you will enjoy great of the Atlantic Ocean on the 13th and 14th holes before you have to turn for home - hopefully having not come unstuck on the treacherous borrows of the 14th green.
This really is a great course with loads of tough holes. Just be sure to enjoy a pint of the black stuff after you play and you'll realise how good the land is you've just trodden.
Best Hole:The 14th offers awesome views which can threaten to take your eye off the game. The green is a serious hazard.
Location: Carne, Belmullet, County Mayo
Green Fees: £20 - £34
