Architect: Colt Stats: 6,278 yds, par 68, SSS 71 GF: £80-£90 Visitor information: All visitors should submit request by email or letter advising home club details and handicap. Two-balls only W: ryegolfclub.co.uk 2008 Ranking: 76 (Up 5) Improvements since 2008 Rankings: Course: Two new fairway bunkers on 12. New shaping to the left of 17th Clubhouse: Minor dining room extension
Another Colt classic with his trademark bunkers and a number of blind shots over ridges. This is historic and traditional golf, played the way the game was designed to be played. There are some excellent long par 4s, and the five short holes are as testing, fun and attractive as you will get to play anywhere. Rye is staunchly old-fashioned with memorabilia and the ghosts of golf-gone-by haunting every corner of the lovely clubhouse. A perfect day at Rye involves two rounds fitted in around the terrific lunch, which is served in the charming dining room.
Panellists' comments: "Timeless feel to both course and clubhouse"; "Some great short holes, including the wonderful 7th"
