Tenby GC
Located in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, it is a visually stunning layout and well worth the long jaunt to the very end of the M4
Tenby is widely regarded as a mecca for stag and hen parties, but look beyond the women wearing "L" plates and guys handcuffed to lamp-posts and head for the golf course.
Located in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, it is a visually stunning layout and well worth the long jaunt to the very end of the M4.
The holes are all classic links with blind tee shots, fairways that resemble crumpled duvets, vicious rough and small, tight greens providing the challenge.
The course itself starts off in tough fashion with three long par 4s in the first three holes - the 4th being perhaps the most testing at 440 yards from the tips.
The green is raised on a plateau and anything other than a well-struck approach will kick sharply off to the left or right. And, as if that wasn't daunting enough, the green slopes sharply from back to front meaning inadvertently putting off the green is not uncommon!
If you haven't blown your handicap by the 5th then the rest of the course offers chances for some good scoring with a mix of tempting one shotters and short par 4s to attack.
Best Hole: 4th 440 yards par 4. A long par 4 that demands a precison approach to a green that holds only very well struck shots. Be realistic with your second shot. If you're not going to get it on in two lay-up short and try to get a wedge close.
