Master the Flop Shot

Faults:

You struggle to chip with hazard in front of you

You want to hit it higher from short range

Fix:

When the full flop shot is required due to a hazard between you and the flag, or when you have little of the green to play with, there are a number of keys to consider. You should feel like you are making a full backswing when playing the shot and your wrists should be cupped as you reach the top. This will create an angle between your wrist and the back of your hand (as you can see) that will open up the face and keep it open during the downswing, allowing you to pop the ball up in the air.

An area where many golfers struggle with the flop shot is not accelerating through impact. Make sure you accelerate from the top of your backswing and feel like your hands are whipping through the ball.
